Compendium of Curiosity Week 32: Rosettes

It is already week 32 of Linda's Compendium of Curiosity Vol. 2 Challenge hosted on her blog Studio L3.  You must know by now that Tim Holtz wrote this amazing treasure trove of information on getting the most out of his many products.  If you don't own the book, now is the time to add it to your Christmas list.  I've really enjoyed working through the challenges each week.  But it isn't all fun and games,  my work has defiantly matured and I have refined my aesthetic as I work through the techniques from the book.

This week is all about the Rosette (page 63) and by Rosette I mean Tim's Alterations (Sizzix) Paper Rosettes Sizzlits Decorative Paper Strip Die and Mini Paper Rosettes Sizzlits Decorative Paper Strip Die ($19.99).  You certainly don't need a die to make a Rosette- or as I like to call them, Lollies- but if you have ever embarked on such an endeavor, you know it is tedious and requires precision.  I would recommend at least a scoring board in order to get straight, evenly spaced fold lines. The Rosette dies make the process so much easier and lets me get right to my favorite part- embellishing.

You know I can't go into the nitty-gritty details on HOW to make the Rosettes on this post because we must respect Tim's intellectual property- and encourage you to buy your own copy of the book.  However,  I will say that I know for sure that Tim has posted tutorials and how-to videos for these two dies so head over to his blog.  Oh, and while you are there you can order an autographed copy of the book.  Jeez, you would think I am getting paid to advertise this publication…trust me, I'm not.

I am slightly addicted to making Rosettes or Lollies.   You might have realized that on your own by now.  I've added them to just about all of my holiday garlands and display tags.  So imagine the squeal that left my mouth when Tim announced he was releasing 2 new Rosettes that make snowflakes.  They arrived a few weeks ago!   I will be posting a tutorial for making Rosettes and Snowflakes including my hints and tricks later this week.  For now, enjoy the two tags I made for the Compendium Challenge.
The "Noel" was cover with Martha Stewart Glitter Glue and sprinkled with Martha Stewart White Gold Fine Glitter- which is really a gorgeous silver color and my favorite glitter color for December holidays.  It takes maybe an hour for the glue to dry completely.  I prefer it to other glues for glittering larger surfaces because it covers nicer and I don't end up with spots of paper showing through.
I thought this tag was going to be my the one because I adore the background and the Rosettes themselves were gorgeous by themselves.  But when the tag was completed, I ended up liking the first tag more.  Which do you like best?
I used Ranger's new-and fabulous- Sticky Embossing Powder with an old french script stamp I've had forever.

*** The stamp is a red rubber wood-mounted stamp that I've used many times with VersaMark Ink.  I learned the hard way that you MUST clean VersaMark Ink off red rubber immediately because it can really mess up the rubber.  First, it became very mushy.  It stayed that way for months and months before the rubber hardened.  It still works…. but it's weird….and wonky..and really hard***

We now return to our regularly scheduled post now in progress….
After heating the Sticky Embossing Powder, I sprinkled the White Gold Glitter over the surface.  The Sticky Embossing Powder does a fantastic job of holding the glitter in place.  For you Glitter-A-Phobs out there, this is the product to have on hand for those moments when you just HAVE to add glitter to a project.  You know, when you are shuddering a little in disgust knowing you have to deal with the fall out glitter….and the static that makes the glitter stick to your face….your pants….your dog.  Sticky Embossing Powder grabs glitter meaning after you initially wrestle the extra glitter back into its container, you can stop shaking and quit worrying about heading to a doctors appointment with white gold glitter on your decollate…and eyelids.

Laters Baby….
