Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2012: October Edition

Today I'm posting my take on Tim Holtz's October tag for his 12 Tags of 2012.
I started out with 3 tags using his technique you can find here.  Honestly, when I first saw the tag I groaned because I didn't think I had much of any of the products he used but in the end I only had to improvise on a couple.

Card 1
So let's start with Cats and Bats.  Tim Used "Gothic Boo" which I thought I had… but sadly that was a dream because I don't have it….anywhere.  The Cat is cut from the Alterations Die "Raven and Scardy Cat" and the bats are from "Howling".  I cut them from a hybrid between chipboard and cardstock.  The "paper " was already black so  didn't have to do any painting.
I used the Rock Candy Dry Stickles and Black Alcohol Ink technique  that Tim shows on his blog and I like it.  It is cool to think of keeping one color of glitter and dying it whatever color one needs.  It looks messy and annoying in the photos he has posted but it mixed together easily with a popsicle stick and was a fairly dry process.
I also used Glossy Accents as he did and that I wasn't so happy with.  It is so messy to spread it with your fingers and frankly the glitter fell off.  I usually use Martha Stewarts Glitter Glue ( and I did on the witch) and have much better results.
The bats are only glued in the center so they wings can be bent up. The "31" is Tim's new Mirror Plastic cut using Alterations Word Play.  The Seam Binding was colored with Raven Glimmer Mist and was combined with Idea-ology Black Tinsel Twine.

I didn't have Perfect Pearl Gold Mist but I do have Heidi Swapp's fabulous Color Shine in gold and that is what I ended up using.  It really looks fabulous though it didn't photograph as well as it looks in person.
Card 2:
This card is more true to the color scheme Tim used.  I didn't have the orange Paint Dabber so I used Martha Stewart paint.  The purple and green are Dabbers.  This witch was cut from Alterations "Howling" and was glittered with same way as the cats and bats.  You can see better where the glitter fell off.
I also sprayed this tag with Gold Color Shine.
Card 3
Back to the silver and black card.
Here I used Martha Stewarts Glitter Glue and Hematite Glitter.  Wayyyyyyy more sparkle for sure.
I sprayed the tag with Glimmer Mist Silver.

  3. Oh, I love your tags. I ended up making 3, too. And one was in neutral colors also. I'm giving Mom 1 tag, using 1 for my weekly tag journal, and another for my Halloween tree. Guess I need to make 1 more for my Sis.
