12 Tags of 2013: April Tag

I spent time in the studio last night (cue the band, release the confetti canons, applause… applause).  First on the agenda, it is time to make my April tag for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2013.

First we have Tim's tag:

This month's tag was all about Tim's new Distress Paints and I have to emphatically say that it is some of the coolest paint I have ever played with.  In fact, it is probably one of the coolest craft SUPPLIES I have ever played with and that is saying a lot.  Just look at the perma-mess of my studio and you will realize I have 1 or 2 of just about craft supply ever invented.
Distress Paints
Always the dilemma: Do I copy Tim's tag or make it my own.  This time I decided to just copy Tim's because the Distress Paints are new and I wanted to actually learn the Patina effect.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the effect the paints give.  They are reactive to water while the paint is wet but once dry they are nonreactive. Soooooo cool.  Tim did a much better job of keeping his colors from muddying up- something I need to perfect before I am completely happy with my patina but I still love it.  This month Tim released the new Metallic Distress Paints….FUN with a capital F.U.N.  Too much? Anyway….
Metallic Distress Paints
Another super awesome characteristic of the Distress Paints is they work on plastic, metal, plastic, paper, plastic and fabric.
Plastic…they work on plastic people…PLASTIC!  Which means you can take a plain black plastic Alpha Part

and make this…
How cool is that?  Tim has step-by-step instructions on his blog with photos.

Finally I wanted to show you what Distress Paints and Distress Stain can do for you.
Here I used Distress Paints, sprayed with water and allowed to mix and run then dried with a heat gun. Once the paint was dry I went over the tag with a variety of Distress Inks before I used Tim's Spritz and Flick Technique to get that cool water drop effect.  I did use the heat gun to dry the water.  LOOOOOVE it.

I'm in the studio working on the wedding!
