Butterfly Birthday Card

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is Birthday Card and it so happens my sister’s birthday is in 4 days. I didn’t actually plan on making this card for her per se but it is so cute I just have to give it to her.
I am head-over-heels in love with the Distress Oxide. I read some trash talk before the CHA last year that Tim’s career was over...he had resigned as Ranger’s Creative Director and Distress was tired and boring and nothing new could possibly be done with it.  Literally later that day he announced Distress Oxide and I was in love. I have always been someone spritzing water on my Distress projects to get those water spouts and this is water spouts on steroids. I also adore the more opaque but not opaque look.  Mixing them together is fun but this card was ALL OXIDE.

I inked the butterfly stamps with the Oxides and spritzed with a little water before stamping down on Distress Watercolor paper. I love the look it gives. I hit the image immediately with the heat gun because it was really wet.  The lettering is one of Tim’s Sizzix Thinlet cut from plain black cardstock twice and layered for depth.

The ribbon is YUMMY.  I was making another project and adding ink from the stamp pad directly to my craft sheet, spritzing with water and adding it to the watercolor paper. I used the rose ribbon to wipe up the extra ink- it kills me to waste it.  I added more water before wiping it up and then added some more to get the ink to blend out on the fibers.  I kept adding more color until I was happy.  Finally, the seam binding was pink seam binding with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide added the same way except it wasn’t as diluted.  To top it all off, I added two rows of gold metallic DMC embroidery floss and a black card back.  Follow me on Instagram at DaneePKaps.
