Another Day Another Tag(S)

I warned you that I had more a ton of tags that day I was working on Perfect Pearl Mist tags.

These really are the last two.  Now it is on to something else.  Too bad I'm up at the cottage with NO craft supplies.  I know right…what A travesty.   I didn't feel good the day I packed and since the husband had been here for 2 days already, I figured I had to get my butt moving…with or without craft supplies.

50 Shades of Brown Tag

This is another tag from the Perfect Pearl Mist Tag-A-Pa-Looza... I went a little nutty that day and there are MORE tags to come. This tag is all Perfect Pearl Mist, Distress Inks, Tim stamps, rub-ons and Tissue Tape…in 50 shades of brown.
I made the bow using Idea-ology Tissue Tape, a Tiny Attacher and beautiful Prima faceted crystals.

To make the bow:  Begin with two lengths of Tissue Tape about 12 inches each.   Stick them back-to-back to each other.  This isn't easy to do but go slowly; be sure to avoid wrinkles and keep them aligned.  You could probably use a single piece of tape and apply talcum powder to the back to keep it from sticking to itself.  This would give you a looser, more flexible..ribbon-like bow but for this I preferred the stiffer, shaped bow.

Once the tape is stuck back-to-back simple shape into a bow by crossing the ends over each other giving you the two loops and two tails.  At some point you will need to scrunch the center down to mimic the knot of an actual bow; you can do that now or later.  To do it later simply staple the bow in the center to secure the loops in place using the Tiny Attacher.  After the bow is secure, scrunch the center together and staple again with the Tiny Attacher; you will probably need a few staples to achieve the right look.  You can certainly leave the tiny staples showing for a grunge look or you can cover it as I did.  You can cover it with a flat-back rhinestone or pearl, a button or a charm…whatever suits your fancy.  Me?  I'm all about the BLING so I went with one of Prima's "Say It With Crystals" faceted rhinestones that I am sooooo head-over-heels in love with right now.  You can attach the bow to the tag with the Tiny Attacher or a glue dot.

The tag itself was inked with Old Paper Distress Ink, sprayed with Cappuccino Perfect Pearls Mist, and stamped with a variety of stamps using Aged Walnut Distress Ink.  After the ink dried I added brown Basic Grey rub-ons and more Prima crystals.  I always cut the rub-ons apart and reconfigure them to my liking.  The bottom was simply highlighted with a strip of the same Tissue Tape that the bow was made out of (and it too is brown).  Finally, I aged an Idea-ology Ornate Plate with various colors of alcohol ink, stamped the sentiment using black archival ink onto the tag and placed the Ornate Plate over top.  I used the included brads to hold the plate ink place and then covered them with small Prima crystals.

More Perfect Pearl Tags

You may remember a few weeks ago the Compendium challenge was all about Perfect Pearl Mist.  I shall now confess that I was out of town when I first read about the challenge and assumed it meant Perfect Pearls Mist MADE with a Mini Mister, Distress Reinkers and Perfect Pearl powder.  So I whipped up some pretty colors and went to town.  Then I actually read the directions and it was really about using the Perfect Pearl Mists…as in the manufactured-by-Ranger version.  To be fair and a good sportswoman, I made NEW tags and posted my favorite one here.

Today I shall post the one that I made first…the one that is my favorite.

And just for fun I am posting another tag I made using the Perfect Pearl Mist as purchased.  I ended up making a bunch of tags, each inked with a different color of a brownish Distress Ink and then hit them all with Perfect Pearl Mist.  I think this is Antique Linen Distress.
The stamp is embossed using Distress Embossing Ink and Clear Embossing Poweder.  I love the tone-on-tone effect.
 The glitter is Glass Glitter.

Kraft Resist: Compendium Week 19

We are at week 19 in the great Compendium Challenge being held by Linda of Studio L3.  This weeks is all about Kraft Resist paper but first let me get the legal stuff out of the way…. The technique can be found on Page 41 of Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosity Vol. 2.  This week Tim also posted a video on Kraft Resist techniques on his blog you can check out for more fun ideas.

Ironically, or maybe serendipitously I whipped out a card yesterday for a birthday party that just happened to have Kraft Resist involved.  Because I finished the card at the exact same time the party started I only got a quick, and not so great, photo of the finished product since I only intended it to be for me.  That said, I am posting it anyway since I think the card was interesting.
In hindsight I wish I had inked the toothpicks up to darken them.

Compendium Week 18: Whitewash Stamping

It is week 18 of Linda's Compendium of Curiosity Challenge over on her blog StudioL3.  This week is all about Whitewash Stamping using Picket Fence Distress Stain.  The specifics for this technique can be found on page 47 of Tim Holtz's excellent how-to book Compendium of Curiosity Vol 2.

This week Linda's challenge is being sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. They are giving a $25 gift certificate to one randomly drawn winner.

Happy Halloween!  A little early? Oh well, it is my favorite holiday.

Rhinestone Frosting Birthday Cake

Late last week I received a very nice email from LeeAnn asking me how to make the cake card I had posted on Pinterest.  I didn't have a tutorial but I promised her I would make one.  So here it is Lee Ann:
 1.  Start with your basic card: I love to send cards in 6x6 envelopes so I cut my base 12x5 3/4
2.  After I fold the card in the center I like to lop off the open ends to make the card
5 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches.  Use a bone folder to make the folds very crisp.
3.  I used a piece of Heidi Swapp's Color Magic which I colored using Dried Marigold  Distress Stain.
4.  I inked the edges using Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink and a Ink Blender Tool.
To make the TABLE.  I embossed the table.  Luckily, I snagged this Daily Junque stamp set from House of 3 and Pink Paislee which comes with a tables and several cake plates.  You certainly don't have to have the table;  you can simply make the cake or freehand cut a plate or table.

5.  Ink the stamp using Distress Embossing Ink, stamp in place and sprinkle with embossing powder.  Be sure to catch excess powder on a clean sheet of paper and pour it back in to the jar.  I chose to use this fun Orange from Zing but you can use any color you like.
6.  Heat Emboss.
To make the CAKE.  Chose 3 coordinated colors for the layers.  I like to use 3 different color/designs but you could certainly use the same paper for all the layers.
6.  Cut one piece 2 1/2x1-inch; cut one piece 2 1/4 x1-inch; and cut one piece 2x1-inch
7. Ink the edges as desired.  I inked all 3 papers with Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink using an Ink Blender Tool.
8. Attach the 3 layers as shown using double stick tape.
To make the FROSTING:

This is the secret to the entire project.
They are simply called Adhesive Rhinestones and I purchase them at Hobby Lobby and Michael's.   They come in many colors and color combinations so you can coordinate or contrast the frosting to the cake layers.
9.  Begin with the bottom layer.  The strip is self-adhesive so just apply over the seam between the two layers.   This string is just slightly too big.
 10. To get the frosting to fit better simply cut off the end that overhangs the cake layer.….be sure to leave enough room for the large pearl to fit back into the space and yet still end at the correct spot.  Getting the fit correct is the difference between a  professional result and something that looks very amateurish.
11. Remove the final large pearl (or rhinestone) from the piece you removed and attach it back in place as below.
 12. The completed layer should looks like this.
 13. Repeat with other two layers.
14. Take the extra little pieces you cut off and pile some on top of the cake.
That's it.  Pretty cool…I've made a bunch of different cakes for a variety of different celebrations.  Sometimes I add rub--ons.
This card is more detailed.  The table is a wood piece from the Daily Junque collection.  It was colored with Dried Marigold Distress Stain and coated 3 times with  UTEE.  The cake is made the same way as above.  The presents and banners add such a playful feel.  The sky is the limit to how fun this card techqnique can be.

Compendium Week 17: Creative Core'Dinations

It is time once again for my weekly answer to Linda's Compendium of Curiosity Vol. 2 Challenge. You can find the party over at her blog StudioL3.

This week is Creative Core'Dinations.  Found on pg 61of Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosity Vol 2. As per usual- I will not discuss the how-to's on my  blog but instead refer you to the book.  This week's challenge is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp who will be awarding a $25 gift certificate to one randomly drawn participant.

Creative Core'Dinations takes advantage of the properties inherent to Core'Dinations papers…the fact that the core is a different color than the surface.
I also played with Ranger Foil Tape and my favorite go-to letters-Idea-ology Alpha Parts.

I cannot get enough of Alpha Parts; here I mixed the Random and Newsprint.  I just hit the top of them with a silver Paint Dabber and they look metal.

August Tag: Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2012

This month Tim posted an interesting tag for his 12 Tags of 2012 project.  He used new stamps from his Stampers Anonymous line…stamps I don't have.   The tags that are improvised are more interesting than the direct copies anyway.

My version is a tribute to Love….

The roses almost killed me but after much road kill I managed to figure it out.  My secret? Glue dots instead of hot glue on the tooth pick to start.
I love all the texture in the roses, leaves and branches.
