Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is Birthday Card and it so happens my sister’s birthday is in 4 days. I didn’t actually plan on making this card for her per se but it is so cute I just have to give it to her. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dK8vuW0g0Ro/WYqEQtEzkUI/AAAAAAAAMHE/g9JzZfoUBDgNTE2Vr7ATHc1UezvHORgsgCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_5138.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dK8vuW0g0Ro/WYqEQtEzkUI/AAAAAAAAMHE/g9JzZfoUBDgNTE2Vr7ATHc1UezvHORgsgCLcBGAs/s640/IMG_5138.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I am head-over-heels in love with the Distress Oxide. I read some trash talk before the CHA last year that Tim’s career was over...he had resigned as Ranger’s Creative Director and Distress was tired and boring and nothing new could possibly be done with it. Literally later that day he announced Distress Oxide and I was in love. I have always been someone spritzing water on my Distress projects to get those water spouts and this is water spouts on steroids. I also adore the more opaque but not opaque look. Mixing them together is fun but this card was ALL OXIDE. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j_7f5TTT2HA/WYqERY3M_RI/AAAAAAAAMHM/EsrEwIr5RN08a3WwzbOcChqsNFuwydKywCLcBGAs/s1600/IMG_5139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j_7f5TTT2HA/WYqERY3M_RI/AAAAAAAAMHM/EsrEwIr5RN08a3WwzbOcChqsNFuwydKywCLcBGAs/s640/IMG_5139.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I inked the butterfly stamps with the Oxides and spritzed with a little water before stamping down on Distress Watercolor paper. I love the look it gives. I hit the image immediately with the heat gun because it was really wet. The lettering is one of Tim’s Sizzix Thinlet cut from plain black cardstock twice and layered for depth. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The ribbon is YUMMY. I was making another project and adding ink from the stamp pad directly to my craft sheet, spritzing with water and adding it to the watercolor paper. I used the rose ribbon to wipe up the extra ink- it kills me to waste it. I added more water before wiping it up and then added some more to get the ink to blend out on the fibers. I kept adding more color until I was happy. Finally, the seam binding was pink seam binding with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide added the same way except it wasn’t as diluted. To top it all off, I added two rows of gold metallic DMC embroidery floss and a black card back. Follow me on Instagram at DaneePKaps.<br />

I am one of the moms who hates the school year. Ugh, double ugh and blech.<br />
<br />
The August 12 Tags of 2016 is really pretty and really fun to do. I am so happy with how the background turned out that I cannot wait to do it on a bigger project.<br />
<br />
I started by using <i>Pumice Stone</i> and <i>Shabby Shutters Distress Stains</i> on the tag. I LOVE how it turned out. I used Creative Chemistry 103 to push myself past my ink colors combinations and I am enjoying the results.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Dragonfly is cut and embossed using the <i>Alterations</i> die and embossing folder set and then I glittered the body and put iridescent foil on the wings. The camera isn't capturing the foiled wings very well. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O5y0cGBMqUM/V7E4Nvp4ioI/AAAAAAAAL-o/iUpKjI0v9McIlGI9gE-JnM6iaPbFWJIVQCLcB/s1600/August%2B6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O5y0cGBMqUM/V7E4Nvp4ioI/AAAAAAAAL-o/iUpKjI0v9McIlGI9gE-JnM6iaPbFWJIVQCLcB/s640/August%2B6.jpg" width="498" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The saying is an <i>Idea-ology Small Talk Sticker</i> cut into pieces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N1rCq3KCnh4/V7o5CS4pCvI/AAAAAAAAL_w/MksHLkrQb4g0eQNketJomlVYvAGp5pE7wCLcB/s1600/FullSizeRender0990.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="600" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N1rCq3KCnh4/V7o5CS4pCvI/AAAAAAAAL_w/MksHLkrQb4g0eQNketJomlVYvAGp5pE7wCLcB/s640/FullSizeRender0990.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I love the added detail of the highly reflective <i>Remanent Rubs Gilded Accents</i> on the upper right and lower left corners. In person these rub-ons are very highly reflective- much more than plain foil.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hoAFjne37dA/V7o5ClkDZ0I/AAAAAAAAL_0/1sVAljOOnMQ3l7uEcfIKBOvaGCq_3oR7ACLcB/s1600/FullSizeRenderiiii.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hoAFjne37dA/V7o5ClkDZ0I/AAAAAAAAL_0/1sVAljOOnMQ3l7uEcfIKBOvaGCq_3oR7ACLcB/s640/FullSizeRenderiiii.jpg" width="630" /></a></div>
I am head-over-heels for this background. The combination of the colors (<i>Pumice Stone </i>and <i>Shabby Shutters</i>), the paper (<i>Wallflower</i>) and the Surfaces (<i>Linen from Textile Surfaces</i> and <i>Burlap from Textured Surface</i>s) and <i>Deco Sheets </i>is really pretty and interesting to look at. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Coloring</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As I write this I have completed the entire class except for the last challenge and I have to say this class is incredible. Tim is always a great teacher, someone who is able to convey the information he wants to in a way that is easy to understand. Creative Chemistry 101 was all about the basics of using inks, paints, stains and rubber stamps to make art while Creative Chemistry 102 built on those techniques. Creative Chemistry 103 is definitely an advanced class that builds on 101 and 102 and never looks back. CC 103 does require 101 and 102 as prerequisites...in a previous post I mentioned you could probably take 103 as a stand alone class but at the time I didn't know that Tim doesn't allow that. As the class progressed I have to say that I agree with him. You definitely need the basics before staring this class because he doesn't slow down and teach any basics but goes full speed ahead using new products and new techniques using old products. However, don't let that scare you, if you consider yourself a beginner stamper or mixed media artist take CC 101 and 102 and then dive in to 103. The class comes with lifetime access and you can rewind the videos or even download them to your own computer and at $25 a class they are inexpensive.<br />
<br />
So.....day 3 was all about Tim's various Texture & Collage Mediums and how they can be used in unconventional ways with the various Distress colorants. So. Much. Fun.<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0Dt8xsPH2Ek/V7ExeLK4u6I/AAAAAAAAL-Q/a_YqZNGlmo82w94b_7GvOwOURmloSo7MACLcB/s1600/CC103%2BDay%2B3.6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0Dt8xsPH2Ek/V7ExeLK4u6I/AAAAAAAAL-Q/a_YqZNGlmo82w94b_7GvOwOURmloSo7MACLcB/s640/CC103%2BDay%2B3.6.jpg" width="522" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Layered Collage</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Layered Collage is pretty standard technique but I found I got a lot of cool texture and interest with the simple addition of Collage medium and Distress Crayons.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jhAnIEKeU_k/V7ExbmnuK0I/AAAAAAAAL-I/NdOuXU2YEcgTochKnOkPEV5K5n7KhpgzQCLcB/s1600/CC103%2BDay%2B3.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jhAnIEKeU_k/V7ExbmnuK0I/AAAAAAAAL-I/NdOuXU2YEcgTochKnOkPEV5K5n7KhpgzQCLcB/s640/CC103%2BDay%2B3.2.jpg" width="442" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Coloring</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Paste Coloring utilizing Opaque Texture Medium is a very fun technique and I ended up making two very different tags using this technique. The one at the top of the blog post and the one above both use this technique. So much texture.....I LOVE this technique.<br />
<br />
Then we did an embossing technique with Texture Paste and BAM! I had fun.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Embossing </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Embossing </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KejI2JAWXgE/V7ExeRdufrI/AAAAAAAAL-U/2HMTcduOwyAfrucYynYfcXhizuq--bnsgCLcB/s1600/CC103%2Bday%2B3.3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KejI2JAWXgE/V7ExeRdufrI/AAAAAAAAL-U/2HMTcduOwyAfrucYynYfcXhizuq--bnsgCLcB/s640/CC103%2Bday%2B3.3.jpg" width="616" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Embossing</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Texture Paste Embossing Technique gives a gorgeous metallic effect unparalleled by other embossing techniques and I couldn't stop making tags. I actually made more than this but decided I could stop photographing them. This technique is a lot of fun to actually do- the embossing powder bubbles and melts in a really satisfying way.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JLxxAa4TJAk/V7EcMYHa9fI/AAAAAAAAL9w/gSDOI3SkMN4KrprnZAzyHrCVPItk92pNwCLcB/s1600/DSC_5050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JLxxAa4TJAk/V7EcMYHa9fI/AAAAAAAAL9w/gSDOI3SkMN4KrprnZAzyHrCVPItk92pNwCLcB/s640/DSC_5050.jpg" width="554" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Texture Paste Resist</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Texture Paste Resist Technique. I LOVE this effect. It doesn't photograph all that well- the photo just doesn't pick up all of the beautiful glossy texture-though it does show up pretty well on video. That said, I didn't think I was going to be all that impressed as it is a sublet effect. It makes a huge mess on the stencils and takes forever to dry and can't be dried with a heat tool- so I ended up leaving them overnight to dry. Then I made my sample and it wasn't pretty....or glossy or transparent like Tim's tag. Hmmm...you know where this is going right? I don't even know what I used but it wasn't Transparent Glossy Texture Paste because that was still sealed right with the factory plastic seal. So....another huge mess and overnight dry time but this time... it was perfect. Such a feminine sublet but effective way to add texture to a project.<br />

Distress Grit-Paste Grunge. I am not sure I am a grungy enough artist to use this paste in this way but it does look pretty darn cool. It also looks amazing as snow and I cannot wait to use it at Christmas. </div>

Day 3 done. So many fun techniques that I will definitely be suing over and over.<br />

Ok friend....day 2 of Creative Chemistry 103. For more information on the class you can read my day 1 post <a href="http://rainingjellybeans.blogspot.com/2016/08/creative-chemistry-103-day-1.html">here</a>. Today we drag out the Disress Paint and I have to say I love the effect of Distress Paint and Distress Ink and Stains together. The more opaque paint looks amazing with the sheer inks. <br />
The tags:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rJ-Jrfsp8cQ/V6JctzQ0PNI/AAAAAAAAL9I/DgAotA37FyUEQSpD_O096w8fT8v26aG2ACLcB/s1600/DSC_5027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="598" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rJ-Jrfsp8cQ/V6JctzQ0PNI/AAAAAAAAL9I/DgAotA37FyUEQSpD_O096w8fT8v26aG2ACLcB/s640/DSC_5027.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Distress Paint Resist Technique. OMG I am in love with this. Again I followed Tim's color way and used that Rusty Hinge with the blues....ahhhhhhh smitten doesn't even begin to explain my feelings.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rmna5Kx7WEQ/V6Jctvq-JSI/AAAAAAAAL9A/cSGSztfrKjwhGvyjkEhtlnxR8gbMHIhvQCLcB/s1600/DSC_5019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rmna5Kx7WEQ/V6Jctvq-JSI/AAAAAAAAL9A/cSGSztfrKjwhGvyjkEhtlnxR8gbMHIhvQCLcB/s640/DSC_5019.jpg" width="617" /></a><br />
This is Distress Paint Lifting Technique. This is definitely one of those practice makes perfect techniques. Getting the colors to not have hard edges is difficult and takes practice. My other two tags were pathetic with very defined lines between the colors that looked like a preschooler may have been involved. It isn't in my comfort level to use all these rainbow colors and I do love the way they look together so I am glad I pushed myself to follow the colors Tim's chose.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CcvVna-LbZI/V6JcswqijtI/AAAAAAAAL8w/PaNe4FetzPcho_j41iuMMpot-efbtJqjACLcB/s1600/DSC_5015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CcvVna-LbZI/V6JcswqijtI/AAAAAAAAL8w/PaNe4FetzPcho_j41iuMMpot-efbtJqjACLcB/s640/DSC_5015.jpg" width="528" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Distress Stain Rub Resist Technique. This comes from one of the 12 Tags of if you are interested in the directions to this...but that's on you cuz I'm too lazy to search for which one. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o_1vURXrsPw/V6Jcs8Y3BFI/AAAAAAAAL8o/oXR-5YUYzzcf0ymesCeTyXXh7uhyyQJaQCLcB/s1600/DSC_5013.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o_1vURXrsPw/V6Jcs8Y3BFI/AAAAAAAAL8o/oXR-5YUYzzcf0ymesCeTyXXh7uhyyQJaQCLcB/s640/DSC_5013.jpg" width="595" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Ooooohhhh how gorgeous. It is hard to see on the photo but this is covered in sparkly perfection. This Distress Luminous Mica Technique is this glitter lovers dream.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-en5Iz8XMj-4/V6JctSeyPEI/AAAAAAAAL84/Xq99On5DulIUClWLPTkQ8EM7pmlANNVAwCLcB/s1600/DSC_5017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-en5Iz8XMj-4/V6JctSeyPEI/AAAAAAAAL84/Xq99On5DulIUClWLPTkQ8EM7pmlANNVAwCLcB/s640/DSC_5017.jpg" width="553" /></a></div>
My final tag of day 2 is Distress Marker Spritzed Watercolor Technique. I have all of the Distress Makers and the Spritzer and have a love/hate relationship with both. When I get the makers to do what I want I love them....when they look like I scribbled on a paper and never even considered blending them- even when I have pilled the paper trying to blend them with water- I hate them. The spritzer I mostly hate because I could never get it to do anything...until this tag. It took 3 tags and 4 times rewinding and watching the video but look how pretty. Like really really pretty. This one will probably find its way back into my repertoire.<br />
<br />
That's it for day 2. Day 3 is posted so I best get into my messy MESSY studio, stumble to my desk (cuz there is stuff literally everywhere blocking my way) and sit my butt down and get inking.<br />

Tim Holtz started this summer out right by reintroducing his Creative Chemistry 101 and 102 as a lead in to the all new 103 class. With added material and several challenges, 101 and 102 were a lot of fun and so far 103 has been more than worth the wait.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I decided to just show the tags and save the chat until the end. If you want to read more about the class and where I get manila tags for 3 cents each, then read on my friend. Otherwise, here are a few photos of my class tags Day 1: </span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EMYR1Ayqscc/V6I-3yEXeeI/AAAAAAAAL7Y/H_i_0vsN4q407kKuJQhVbbZHvnTD_q5fACLcB/s1600/DSC_5035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EMYR1Ayqscc/V6I-3yEXeeI/AAAAAAAAL7Y/H_i_0vsN4q407kKuJQhVbbZHvnTD_q5fACLcB/s640/DSC_5035.jpg" width="592" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Distress Ombre </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This first tag was made using a custom Ombre Distress Ink pad. While it looks like I used two colors I did in fact use 3...in any event I love the way this looks. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mKQTcBz1br4/V6I-52qPdTI/AAAAAAAAL7c/UlWt8M98n20gKRl9XmMd3lQ2sqc1C1rqwCLcB/s1600/DSC_5033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="612" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mKQTcBz1br4/V6I-52qPdTI/AAAAAAAAL7c/UlWt8M98n20gKRl9XmMd3lQ2sqc1C1rqwCLcB/s640/DSC_5033.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Distress Highlight Stamping Technique</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The 2nd technique utilities the unique properties of Picket Fence Distress Ink which is a pigment ink that as Tim says "thinks it is a dye ink". I will admit I don't use this pad very often since it isn't all that vivid and in fact does act more like a dye than a pigment ink. This technique uses the ink as the first layer with a second colorful layer off set above it to give a built-in highlight. This is not my favorite technique and honestly probably the last time I will use it..... but you never know.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tBVb2mFdeA/V6I-7r-547I/AAAAAAAAL7g/bQZq4gbKQ941UK41KyKXhOes5FjgIcT6ACLcB/s1600/DSC_5031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tBVb2mFdeA/V6I-7r-547I/AAAAAAAAL7g/bQZq4gbKQ941UK41KyKXhOes5FjgIcT6ACLcB/s640/DSC_5031.jpg" width="586" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Distress Off-Set Stamping Technique</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Watercolor is all the rage right now, for good reason because of course it is gorgeous. This technique starts out using "no line" stamping. Kristina Werner who is a very talented designer and artist demonstrates it often on her YouTube channel. Distress- Inks, Markers, and Stains work beautifully to achieve a watercolor look. Don't know how to shade? I have learned a lot from watching Kristina and Sandy Allnock on YouTube.... and practice helps too.<br />
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ilh1ONE4PiQ/V6I-_hwwDWI/AAAAAAAAL7k/9xRYs1AFCew8PKHH2-Naq24bT3jKLgP2wCLcB/s1600/DSC_5025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="620" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ilh1ONE4PiQ/V6I-_hwwDWI/AAAAAAAAL7k/9xRYs1AFCew8PKHH2-Naq24bT3jKLgP2wCLcB/s640/DSC_5025.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Distress Washed Watercolor Technique</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This tag uses Distress Markers and I think this is the first time I was able to get a blend I was happy with. I love the little splatters all over the clean white cardstock.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And finally....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGIqY8IsCWc/V6JJHTtWaNI/AAAAAAAAL8E/n180JQlwBL8u3uw5vm1t1-7vBkFBs2PQwCLcB/s1600/DSC_5030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGIqY8IsCWc/V6JJHTtWaNI/AAAAAAAAL8E/n180JQlwBL8u3uw5vm1t1-7vBkFBs2PQwCLcB/s640/DSC_5030.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Distress Micro Glaze Resist Technique</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This gorgeous tag was made using Layering Stencils which add so much interest in only a few steps. Interesting codor combinations is something I struggle with...I find myself sticking to the same tried and true combos and Tim just goes for it. I admire that so much and decided I would follow his color combos to see if I could get out of my comfort zone. He goes for grunge and pushes it farther than I ever do but I love how this looks. Honestly, I have never used Rusty Hinger before this tag and I am smitten where Rusty Hinge meets any blue. Like with my recent discovery of Aged Mahagony and Victorian Velvet (did you notice them on the dress above) I wonder where the hell have I been? </div>

If you haven't taken any of Tim's classes before I highly recommend you check them out. I have learned so much and drastically changed the way I create using ink, paper, and paint. While the classes highlight the products under Tim's line with Ranger, many of the techniques can be used with other inks and paints. One of the downloads included in the class is a chart highlighting the properties of the various products made by Ranger but also includes a blank page for writing down your own experiments using other products.</div>

CC 103 build's on techniques taught in CC 101 and 102 and yet I think you could easily take the class as a stand alone class. If you have never dragged a tag through a puddle of Distress Sprays you may have to watch the videos a few times to get it but none of the projects are particularly difficult to do. The art is getting the look you want without making mud..but it is only paper and tags are inexpensive enough that I never get upset if one ends up in the recycling bin. Tim usually demos on #8 manila tags. </span><a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=68439&currency=USD">Ranger</a> tags are 20 tags for $3.99 or 20 cents per tag. I buy my tags in bulk from <a href="http://www.xpresstags.com/manila-tags">XpressTags</a> which offer #8 manila tags $30.64/1000 or 3 cents per tag; $8.88/100 or 9 cents per tag. XpressTags do have a dark hole reinforcer while the Ranger tags have a manila color reinforcer, but for 17 cents in saving I will deal with it. XpressTags offers manila tags in 8 sizes from #1 to #8 as well as tags up to size #10 in a variety of <a href="http://www.xpresstags.com/XTG/Colored-Tags.aspx">colors including white</a>. They also have <a href="http://www.xpresstags.com/metal-tags">metal</a>, <a href="http://www.xpresstags.com/plastic-tags">plastic</a>, and <a href="http://www.xpresstags.com/recylced-paper-shipping-cardstock-tag/sku-tg-0448">Kraft</a> ($23.08/1000). </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IekUtd_A-Ss/V4rzeEGJfNI/AAAAAAAAL50/oNpnzQUHv900K_6mrbeAZlU3wcT-LzVJACLcB/s1600/DSC_4994.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IekUtd_A-Ss/V4rzeEGJfNI/AAAAAAAAL50/oNpnzQUHv900K_6mrbeAZlU3wcT-LzVJACLcB/s320/DSC_4994.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the last finished tag that I made for Tim Holtz's Week 6 <i>Layered Stencils </i>Challenge for Creative Chemistry 102. The challenge involved using two of Tim's techniques he went over this week involving his fun Layered Stencils. You can read my previous posts <a href="http://rainingjellybeans.blogspot.com/2016/07/creative-chemistry-102-layering-stencil_15.html">here</a> and <a href="http://rainingjellybeans.blogspot.com/2016/07/creative-chemistry-102-layering-stencil.html">here</a> see the previous 2 tags and descriptions of the supplies I used.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ANZb8xWku4k/V4rzdx32ikI/AAAAAAAAL5s/oFHmIo1JZ2UE4ZcZATq_-DBKFOd1CMsWgCLcB/s1600/DSC_5005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ANZb8xWku4k/V4rzdx32ikI/AAAAAAAAL5s/oFHmIo1JZ2UE4ZcZATq_-DBKFOd1CMsWgCLcB/s640/DSC_5005.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
In addition to the manilla cardstock accent piece made using Embossing Through Stencils technique I added a piece of book page that was silk screened using a Heidi Swapp screen and Reactive Screen Ink and run through my Minc and foiled with pink ombre foil. I cut the book page so that the foil polka dots are gold and almost a white gold leaving the pink dots for another project. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k6jBXzUoFpA/V4rzeFLul0I/AAAAAAAAL5w/pW9msR7yuuIg2h6_-WaGG3WhAEDVaGL3wCLcB/s1600/DSC_4993.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k6jBXzUoFpA/V4rzeFLul0I/AAAAAAAAL5w/pW9msR7yuuIg2h6_-WaGG3WhAEDVaGL3wCLcB/s640/DSC_4993.jpg" width="380" /></a></div>
The "hello" die was cut from cardstock that I foiled using the Minc and rose gold foil. The cardstock was covered entirely with toner from my laser printer which allows me to foil it using any color I want and giving me a shiny sheet of foil for die cutting. Gilded Perfection.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dck8GcYobHc/V4rzeQtOKhI/AAAAAAAAL54/-6o2eiTuxuMKx5RJa48EAxYm741hVix0ACLcB/s1600/DSC_5006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dck8GcYobHc/V4rzeQtOKhI/AAAAAAAAL54/-6o2eiTuxuMKx5RJa48EAxYm741hVix0ACLcB/s640/DSC_5006.jpg" width="528" /></a></div>
I finished the tag with a piece of metallic embroidery floss tied in a simple knot.<br />

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wfT3d3h9bto/V4l8z4FEA-I/AAAAAAAAL30/MPmUrneNcRcGPnmEP7HuGqRcLwe7ClQAgCLcB/s1600/DSC_5007_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wfT3d3h9bto/V4l8z4FEA-I/AAAAAAAAL30/MPmUrneNcRcGPnmEP7HuGqRcLwe7ClQAgCLcB/s320/DSC_5007_2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This delicate second tag was made using <i>Spun Sugar Spray Stain</i> on the tag for a quick background. I inked <i>Antique Linen Distress Ink</i> through the <i>Industrial Layering Stencil</i> using a round foam blending tool. I stamped the <i>Type</i> stamp from the <i>Newsprint and Type</i> stamp and inked the edges of the tag using <i>Ground Espresso Distress Ink</i>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pnNePOxTrHE/V4l1u8IGOxI/AAAAAAAAL2w/ctmddbyaeDAopc_ppHeNbyVDglKf7kROwCLcB/s1600/DSC_4972.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="574" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pnNePOxTrHE/V4l1u8IGOxI/AAAAAAAAL2w/ctmddbyaeDAopc_ppHeNbyVDglKf7kROwCLcB/s640/DSC_4972.jpg" width="640" /></a>A <span style="text-align: left;">single bloom from the<i> Flower Garden</i> stamp set was stamped using <i>Distress Embossing Ink</i> on <i>Distress Watercolor Paper</i> and embossed with using <i>Ranger Platinum Embossing Ink</i>. Using a water brush I painted the flower using <i>Spun Sugar Distress Stain.</i> The flower and all the tags were dripped with large drops of water and dried using a heat gun. I also sprayed the watercolor paper with <i>Heidi Swapp Colorshine </i>in Gold that I have decanted into a <i>Distress Sprayer</i>. This is my favorite way to get gold splatters on to everything!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9zP1dZmdOk/V4l1u5xcyiI/AAAAAAAAL2s/6T3uwl_H1MAgt-vx3z3GULojxCcRyr-vACLcB/s1600/DSC_4973.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9zP1dZmdOk/V4l1u5xcyiI/AAAAAAAAL2s/6T3uwl_H1MAgt-vx3z3GULojxCcRyr-vACLcB/s640/DSC_4973.jpg" width="340" /></a></div>
The second technique-<b>Embossed Stencil Technique</b>- was made using the same colors as before but using the <i>Stripes</i> stencil and <i>Ranger Embossing Powder</i>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LMUVd1qkGYA/V4l8zytO2fI/AAAAAAAAL3w/-smWtOIawUUR-EqBZ7BOaFuihhMvJnUmwCLcB/s1600/DSC_5005_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LMUVd1qkGYA/V4l8zytO2fI/AAAAAAAAL3w/-smWtOIawUUR-EqBZ7BOaFuihhMvJnUmwCLcB/s640/DSC_5005_2.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
I layered the tag with little flags made from old book page that had been foiled using <i>Heidi Swapp Minc</i> and her <i>Reactive Art Screen Ink</i> and her polka dot art screen. The tag was layered with a scrap of <i>Walnut Stain Core'dinations Distress. </i>The word "celebrate" was cut using an <i>Alterations Celebrations Words: Script</i> die and a piece of copy paper run through my laserjet printer making a sheet of toner that had been foiled with the <i>Heidi Swapp Minc</i> and gold foil.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-625IYEtW7T0/V4l1vIFAWDI/AAAAAAAAL24/iOKGAQunCHkw3hpUfZ25vCdYUqs7hvGGQCLcB/s1600/DSC_4975.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="574" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-625IYEtW7T0/V4l1vIFAWDI/AAAAAAAAL24/iOKGAQunCHkw3hpUfZ25vCdYUqs7hvGGQCLcB/s640/DSC_4975.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I topped this tag with a pretty seam binding bow and an <i>Idea-ology Heart Charm</i>, some <i>Baubles</i> and two Swarovski crystals.<br />

Tim Holtz is rerunning<b> <a href="http://onlinecardclasses/">Creative Chemistry 102</a></b> this summer as a lead up to his new class <b>Creative Chemistry 103</b>. Creative Chemistry 101 and 102 profoundly changed the way I use inks and paint when I took them several years ago. I highly recommend the classes- they are inexpensive and you have lifetime access..<br />
<br />
For this go-around Tim has added new weekly challenges using whatever combinations of the techniques from the class that he deems worthy. This week's challenge was to use two techniques from the class using his <i>Layering Stencils</i>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KEuIMPqlUNA/V4l12EQnnKI/AAAAAAAAL3k/p0uEAfPUwCIsw_dg370xRnm-CIE8DUJ3gCEw/s1600/DSC_5008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KEuIMPqlUNA/V4l12EQnnKI/AAAAAAAAL3k/p0uEAfPUwCIsw_dg370xRnm-CIE8DUJ3gCEw/s640/DSC_5008.jpg" width="372" /></a></div>
I decided to play around with the <b>Stencil Stamping Technique </b>and <b>Embossing Through Stencils</b>. I ended up playing around quite a bit with the <b>Stencil Stamping Technique</b> and I am thrilled with the results. Actually, I also made quite a few really fun background tags using <b>Embossing Through Stencils</b> as well. I will admit that melding the two techniques was a challenge, but I love what I ended up with.<br />
<br />
This first tag is truly for coffee lovers. Coffee lovers and all those of you who realized that <i>Victorian Velvet Distress</i> <i>Ink</i> is PERFECTION. Why didn't you tell me? I mean how could you let me go all these many years without realizing this? I am honestly so confused. I know that I have blended, stained and sprayed that color many times but somehow I didn't understand the majestic perfection of this color before yesterday....I feel stupid.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-avJnCe_DLXE/V4l10uQc4JI/AAAAAAAAL3k/7NYCcyUKGmA-EewdTdJ8-k9dwztzJqglACEw/s1600/DSC_4988.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-avJnCe_DLXE/V4l10uQc4JI/AAAAAAAAL3k/7NYCcyUKGmA-EewdTdJ8-k9dwztzJqglACEw/s640/DSC_4988.jpg" width="328" /></a></div>
I started by spraying the background with said <i>Victorian Velvet</i> <i>Distress Stain Spray</i>. After it was all nice and dry, I inked the coffee splatter from the <i>Splatters Layering Stencil </i>then using <i>Vintage Photo Distress Ink</i>. I added <i>Black Soot Distress Ink</i> and one of the stamps from the weird and wild script on one of the stamps from the <i>Stamper's Anonymous Ledger</i> set. Using Tim's "Spritz and Flick" technique, I added water droplets all over everything on my tag and table. That was all dried using a heat tool and finally I added<i> Ground Espresso Distress Ink </i>around the edges <br />
<br />
The second technique I used was the<b> Embossed Layers Technique</b> using the <i>Honeycomb Layering Stencil, Spun Sugar </i>and <i>Walnut Stain Distress Inks</i> and <i>Ranger Clear Embossing Powder</i>. Using the <i>Alterations Tea Time </i>die, I cut the cup and saucer from that tag and 2 plain cups- one from plain <i>Walnut Stain Core'dinations</i> cardstock and one from a piece of cardstock that had been run through a laser printer giving me a page of plain toner which I then foiled using my <i>Heidi Swapp Minc</i> and <i>Heidi Swapp Rose Gold Foil.</i> I inked the edges of the non-foiled cups and attached them to the tag using foam tape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pviJY87EEzo/V4mALNdQZVI/AAAAAAAAL4Q/k4l82ld6sXQlU-LHoZiVS8330FlgsWCewCLcB/s1600/DSC_5011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pviJY87EEzo/V4mALNdQZVI/AAAAAAAAL4Q/k4l82ld6sXQlU-LHoZiVS8330FlgsWCewCLcB/s400/DSC_5011.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A simple book-page band was added cross the lower part of the tag for contrast. I used a glue pen to apply a thin line of glue on the top and bottom of the book page which I then foiled using a scrap of foil-simply press the foil, shiny-side up, on to the glue. The word "friends" from the <i>Alterations Handwritten Love</i> die set was cut using a piece of copy paper that had been foiled using the same technique as the cardstock.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zBIxKiZhwuk/V4mAKv9m4wI/AAAAAAAAL4E/Y9O88kEB4R02_ArK9DCTNGECc_T3G77ZgCLcB/s1600/DSC_5008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zBIxKiZhwuk/V4mAKv9m4wI/AAAAAAAAL4E/Y9O88kEB4R02_ArK9DCTNGECc_T3G77ZgCLcB/s640/DSC_5008.jpg" width="372" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top of the tag was embellished with a <i>Core'dinations Walnut Stain</i> scrap cut into a simple flag and stapled into place using the <i>Tiny Attacher</i>. The word "good" was die cut from the foiled copy paper using individual <i>Alterations Alphanumeric</i> letter dies. The die cut words and letters were attached using <i>Ranger</i> <i>Multi-medium Matte. </i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-975kNFKBeJg/V4mALOw-btI/AAAAAAAAL4M/A_S_rAgBTagBy2jX1rowGtHYu8z7NIw0ACLcB/s1600/DSC_5010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-975kNFKBeJg/V4mALOw-btI/AAAAAAAAL4M/A_S_rAgBTagBy2jX1rowGtHYu8z7NIw0ACLcB/s400/DSC_5010.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<i>Studio Calico</i> wooden stars billow on the steam from the coffee cups and the tag is topped by a seam binding bow colored using both <i>Victorian Velvet </i>and <i>Ground Espresso Distress Spra</i>ys.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VYt91agv_Qo/V4l11Trn2gI/AAAAAAAAL3k/j8s3qtPYGasRt7P3Ee0jylqM7Hb_ryuEwCEw/s1600/DSC_4992.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VYt91agv_Qo/V4l11Trn2gI/AAAAAAAAL3k/j8s3qtPYGasRt7P3Ee0jylqM7Hb_ryuEwCEw/s320/DSC_4992.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Ugh, this summer is flying by and as someone how hates the school year-I don't sleep well so early mornings are painful-I live for summer. But time marches forward.<br />
<br />
Tim Holtz's July Tag was so fun to make. I actually made a few versions but today I will post my favorite. I guess it all goes down from here?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RYOXzUZPkwg/V4bS2WL-q0I/AAAAAAAAL14/fSmrZ8xSHKgtJ6lELCwP2be74J9AHjfPACEw/s1600/0713216C.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RYOXzUZPkwg/V4bS2WL-q0I/AAAAAAAAL14/fSmrZ8xSHKgtJ6lELCwP2be74J9AHjfPACEw/s640/0713216C.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As always I will show you Tim's tag:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ETa84BXiNBs/V4bURDxfmEI/AAAAAAAAL2U/f-oSgfkW19gTje2BF1l9GE-mwDcQhOYIACLcB/s1600/2016TAG1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ETa84BXiNBs/V4bURDxfmEI/AAAAAAAAL2U/f-oSgfkW19gTje2BF1l9GE-mwDcQhOYIACLcB/s640/2016TAG1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This tag was so hard for me and then I ended up making so many. My biggest problem was lack of direction following skills. I started by watercoloring painting a bunch of imagines and not realizing that I had to cover the image with Tim's <i>Distress Glaze</i> and then cover the entire tag with a watered down <i>Distress Ink</i> wash. I will show you a version later that is a complete mess up because I ended up splattering lots of colors in the background and couldn't<i> Glaze </i>over it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FWhiV92RESc/V4bS4Kk64nI/AAAAAAAAL2I/LDd7rLfRBqwqRQBy9Wfb_tQkweD-DchVgCLcB/s1600/0713216J.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FWhiV92RESc/V4bS4Kk64nI/AAAAAAAAL2I/LDd7rLfRBqwqRQBy9Wfb_tQkweD-DchVgCLcB/s640/0713216J.jpg" width="392" /></a></div>
This tag started out shaky, but ended so beautifully. I painted the butterfly using Tim's <i>Distress Inks</i> and let it dry, used the <i>Distress Glaze</i>. I used a gold watercolor wash over the entire card then a layer or watered down <i>Broken China Distress Ink</i>. I inked the entire tag and the edges with <i>Vintage Photo Distress Ink </i>and I love the effect the three colors gave-gold, blue, brown. The <i>Vintage Photo</i> was applied using a <i>Mini Blending Tool</i>. I dripped water on to the <i>Distress Ink</i> to get that perfect mottled look I can't live without.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lqUYnvg-wnE/V4bS2pmtVRI/AAAAAAAAL18/Xb4s4v89HvAGVcnTYmB9IBNAm68wIvM7ACLcB/s1600/0713216E.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lqUYnvg-wnE/V4bS2pmtVRI/AAAAAAAAL18/Xb4s4v89HvAGVcnTYmB9IBNAm68wIvM7ACLcB/s640/0713216E.jpg" width="474" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The tag was finished with sentiments made using Tim's <i>Alterations</i> individual <i>AlphaNurmeric</i> dies to spell out "FLY FREE" and "forever" from the <i>Handmade Love</i> die set. "forever" was cut from a piece of cardstock I printed completely black on a Laser Printer and then foiled using Heidi Swapp Minc, rose gold foil. I adore the Minc and cannot live without foiling everything in site. I have a lot of fun things to photograph and get on here and my Instagram.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished off the butterfly by adding a <i>Idea-ology Pen Nib</i> covered in copper metallic embroidery floss. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you aren't following me on Instagram why not? I post a lot of my projects there so come find me DaneePKaps. </div>

<a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-june/">Tim Holtz's June tag</a> is adorable and I was very worried. You see, I don't have the particular Sizzix die (the Bigz Dapper) that Tim used and frankly that die is pretty much what makes the entire design so incredible. I played around with a few of my dies and in the end I really like what I made. <br />

I used a preprinted Tissue Wrap design because I didn't have the plain Tissue Wrap though I do prefer the less busy design that Tim made for his tag over the busy preprinted design I used. <br />

Tim Holtz is offering his Creative Chemistry 101 and 102 class again as a lead in to his new class Creative Chemistry 103 which begins in August. You can find more about the classes at <a href="http://www.onlinecardclasses.com/product/tim-holtz-creative-chemistry-101/">Online Card Classes.</a> I took the two classes she they were originally offered and I can honey say they changed the way I do paper crafting. <br />
<br />
Part of the updating of 101 and 102 include occasional challenges and this week-Week 4 Challenge included Embossing Basics. I won't go over the exact details in how these were made because. that is part of Tim's class.<br />

This month Tim continues his 12 Tags of 2016 Remix with <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-april/">Faux Mosaic and Wood Grain</a>. The remix factor was the use of Tim's new Faux Mosaic kit and his new WoodGrain cardstock. I don't have either of those items so I kept things a little old school....eer...I didn't remix I guess.<br />
<br />
Tim's version:<br />
<img alt="2016TAG" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19141" height="480" src="http://timholtz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/2016TAG.jpg" width="640" /><br />
<br />
<br />
My version:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BU7tLXgNIDg/VxVZLhY1_VI/AAAAAAAALyU/m8kuV3680V0XFZMAgOxvUCyP7ly_vY5TgCLcB/s1600/April%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BU7tLXgNIDg/VxVZLhY1_VI/AAAAAAAALyU/m8kuV3680V0XFZMAgOxvUCyP7ly_vY5TgCLcB/s640/April%2B1.jpg" width="562" /></a></div>
I used silver glitter paper on the wings and Minc foiled typing paper on the body of my dragonfly.<br />
I used Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder for my "grout" and covered the mosaic pieces with Glossy Accents.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NZtqvJXJyCU/VxVZLukfxAI/AAAAAAAALyQ/KzVHiyHs4oQGQkHqv68Y1htedogGQh1jACLcB/s1600/april%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NZtqvJXJyCU/VxVZLukfxAI/AAAAAAAALyQ/KzVHiyHs4oQGQkHqv68Y1htedogGQh1jACLcB/s640/april%2B2.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>
I embossed the woodgrain using WOW dull white embossing powder and applied several colors of brown Distress Inks. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PNxS1slOXl4/VxVZLkptZPI/AAAAAAAALyY/ye8kho8p8oIha0DF3ATo2kA-Hhvoz9qjgCLcB/s1600/april%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PNxS1slOXl4/VxVZLkptZPI/AAAAAAAALyY/ye8kho8p8oIha0DF3ATo2kA-Hhvoz9qjgCLcB/s640/april%2B3.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>

I also know that not everyone wants to wade through my novellas every time I post a cool project. The thing is, I like to teach...I am always so excited to share what I know about a new product or what I learned (maybe the hard way) about a technique while I made the project. But 2016 is the <i>Instagram</i> <i>Generation</i> and people often just want to see photo and move on to the next one. People are busy, I get that, so I have decided to try something a little different...maybe make everybody happy!?!? I will post BOTH a full<i>-</i>length post and a "<i>Photo Edition</i>" made mostly of photos. The full-length post will include all the information, education, and links that I like to share without all that guilt that I am writing too much and taking too much of your time. The <i>Photo Edition</i> still too long for you? I am always impressed- and grateful- that Tim considers these tiny details when he designs for his various product lines. This grungy mixed-media technique was updated for 2016 by changing out the coloring agent from Distress Paints to Tim's new Distress Crayons. The new Crayons are available in 3 color sets- Set 1(brights) Mermaid Lagoon, Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, & Twisted Citron; Set 2 (Earth Tone) Festive Berries, Fossilized Amber, Chipped Sapphire, Rusty Hinges, Peeled Paint, and Seedless Preserves; & Set 3 (Vintage) Antique Linen, Walnut Stain, Black Soot, Vintage Photo, Hickory Smoke, & Picket Fence. Simon Says Stamp has the sets for $12.99 each and individual colors for $2.99 each; A Cherry On Top also has the sets for $12.99, is not offering individual colors at this time but has a deal on all 3 sets for $35.99 (A Cherry On Top often has promo codes so be sure to check their Promo tab or sign up for their emails). If you have been in the mixed-media world for any length of time you have heard of Faber-Castell's Tim Holtz Distress Crayon Bundle A Cherry On Top Gelatos. So what makes Distress Crayons different from a Gelato? Like all Distress products, the crayons contain a water-reactive pigment, allowing the water-spot look I love so much. Another different between the two products is that Distress Crayons require MORE pigment for blending them out. I made this mistake the first time I tried mine out. I swiped a thin line of pigment and used a water brush to try to move the product and literally nothing happened. I was confused and disappointed...and a little scared....now what do I do with them? While making this tag I realized that these are not like Gelatos or a watercolor pencil or maker where a small amount goes a long way...in fact it is the opposite. But the color is rich and fun to play with and honestly I cannot wait to get my hands on them again. The big disadvantage of more-is-enough quality is I found myself winding the product up the tube over and over. Thankfully the crayons are available individually because my favorite colors will no doubt need replacing sooner rather than later. Distress Crayons go on very smooth-Tim compares it to the consistency of lipstick and I have to agree. The colors can be smeared with your fingers or moved with a waterbrush. I found a baby wipe removes a lot of color and is not the best way to move color or blend color but allowed me to removing color in areas I thought either had too much color or I wanted to blend other colors and needed to lighten the area. The colors can be layered on top of each other and either blended individually or mixed into a new color. This property is a bonus as they currently only come in 18 colors. Once the colors dry down they don't move much-or maybe at all... I still need to pay some more to know exactly what happens- allowing colors to be layered without ending up with a muddy mess. Frankly I am in love with these little pigment sticks. There are quite a few videos of Tim demoing the Distress Crayons at CHA-here is one from Scrapbook.com. I also found an artist who compared Distress Crayons with Gelatos head-to-head. To be fair, the compare was done right after the crayons were released and I don't think she understood the "more-is-more" property of Distress Crayons, however she did a great side-by-side comparison with Gelatos and it is worth checking out if you are on the fence about getting them. I sprinkled a few of the stunning Moonshine sequins from Simon Says Stamp. The shine and reflection on Moonshine sequins is such a fun juxtaposition to the grunged-out corrugated cardboard. The Idea-ology Word Bands are attached with gold metallic DMC embroidery floss and all of the tags were finished off with a length of Idea-ology Linen Trimming and the same metallic gold embroidery floss.">Instagram</a> (DaneeKaps).<br />

I like to make 1 or 2 tags pretty much exactly like Tim's version in order to practice the techniques. Tim likes to really load these tags with new ways to use products and the best way to learn is to actually do it. Then I like to make a few tags my own take on the design...changing up colors, imagines, embellishments..whatever strikes me...but always keeping the overall design elements the same cuz otherwise you aren't using his tag as inspiration. <br />

<span style="font-size: 16px;">This is my first full-length post under my new "policy" of doing both a photo-heavy short post and a longer full-length post with all the details inside. Hopefully this will meet everyone's needs. This is a REALLY long post even for me and at least partially because I have a lot to say about the new </span><i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Crayons. </i><span style="font-size: 16px;"> I realize that not everyone wants to read this encyclopedia-length post so I labeled everything to make it easy to find the parts you are interested in.</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
Let's go...</div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
I always like to start by showing Tim's tags. With the new <i>Technique Remix</i> it is fun to see where we started so let's begin with the original tags:</div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: orange;">Behind door #1</span> we have the November 2014 tag, <span style="color: #2929ee;"><i><a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2014-november/">Textured Surfaces</a>....</i></span> a beautiful autumnal leaf which brings to mind blustery days, pretty scarves, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-size: 16px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c48BUs11ILQ/VudwWD8Nx6I/AAAAAAAALvs/xgEe9S_2NO4uN4qeMwGQYz3bgb7D-gaIA/s1600/2016MONTHS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c48BUs11ILQ/VudwWD8Nx6I/AAAAAAAALvs/xgEe9S_2NO4uN4qeMwGQYz3bgb7D-gaIA/s640/2016MONTHS.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px;">Photo: <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-march/">Timholtz.com</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<i>Textured Surfaces</i> is the ultimate technique when you want something super grungy and dirty. The color layers allows you to basically go in any direction- you can keep it dark and dingy or brighten it up like the butterfly tags (below). Manipulate and use the color layer can either emphasize the grimy industrial vibe or play against it with something light and airy....or anything in between.</div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="color: orange;">Behind door #2 </span>we have <span style="color: #2929ee;"><i><a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2015-august/">Dimensional Die Cuts</a>, </i></span>a fairly recent technique originally seen in August of 2015. This technique uses wafer-thin, chemical-etched dies called <i style="color: #2929ee;"><a href="http://www.sizzix.com/catalog?crumb=&tag_product_line=705&type=product">Thinlets</a> </i>build a background from the negative of the dies. The beauty of this technique is that water-thin dies are available in thousands of designs meaning this technique can be used for just about anything you can imagine. I will talk about this a lot more below.</div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">

<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-size: 16px;">Here is Tim's March 2016 </span><i style="font-size: 16px;">Technique Remix</i><span style="font-size: 16px;"> tag:</span></div>

<span style="color: red; font-size: 16px;">MY DESIGNS: </span><br />
<span style="font-size: 16px;">I shall begin by stating the obvious... this one GRUNGY ol' design... I am talking disheveled, trashy, dilapidated (yes, I visited </span><a href="http://thesaurus.com/" style="font-size: 16px;">Thesaurus.com</a><span style="font-size: 16px;">). Let's be honest, it is probably the grungiest tag I have ever made. Since I don't usually go so far down the </span><strike style="font-size: 16px;">rabbit hole </strike><span style="font-size: 16px;"> Trashcan (think Oscar not curbside), I decided to copy Tim's version as closely as I could before wandering off and changing things up a little.</span></div>

<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="color: red;">THE REMIX</span>: </div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px;">
This grungy, mixed-media technique was updated for 2016 by changing out the coloring medium from <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Paints</i> to the new <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Crayons</i>. In his original tag, Tim used <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Paint</i> and what is basically the <i style="font-size: 16px;">Wrinkle-Free Distress Technique.</i> The technique is easy and fun to do, simply squeeze out blobs of <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Paints- </i>at least 3 colors for the best effect-on to a nonstick craft mat, mist with water and swiped the tags through the color until the desired look is achieved. This technique can be done with<i style="font-size: 16px;"> Distress Inks, Stains, Sprays</i> and <i style="font-size: 16px;">Paints</i> a mixture of products which is definitely one of my favorite ways to do this. <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress Paint </i><span style="font-size: 16px;">looks amazing </span>because once it is dry it is opaque and no longer reactive to water. <i>Sprays, Stains</i>, and <i>Inks</i> remain translucent and reactive to water when dry... mix them together and they combine for some amazing effects.</div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px;">
But enough about that because this <i>Remix</i> was all about the <i>Distress Crayons</i>.</div>

If you have been in the mixed-media world for any length of time, I am sure you have heard of <i><a href="http://www.fabercastell.com/design-memory-craft-us/products/gelatos?gclid=Cj0KEQiAvJS3BRDd44fjndyii6MBEiQAN4EkPRLivif8hiqZCaHCRIO9LRiUoC7ifWgnUui6Hzt1tBgaApve8P8HAQ">Faber-Castell's</a> Design Memory Craft Gelatos</i>. <i>Gelatos</i> are described as "water-soluble pigment sticks" and are acid free. They are often used to rubber stamp-simply scribble the stick directly onto the stamp and either stamp directly onto your surface or mist with a fine spray of water and stamp. The colors become more translucent when diluted with water. </div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
Collecting all the colors can get a tad confusing because they are sold in a crap ton of configurations. Let's start with size- <i>Gelatos</i> come in two size: <i>Single Scoop (</i>5.6 gms for $2.95). There are 52 <i>Single Scoop</i> colors of which 15 are metallics. <i>Double Scoop</i> (13 gms for $4.95)... wait...see what they did there?...gelato?....scoops? I love Ice Cream....okay FOCUS...back to the <i>Double Scoops...Double Scoops</i> are available in 18 colors. </div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="min-height: 19px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">Here is where it gets complicated because all of the colors are available individually but they also come in a crap ton of sets. A lot of the sets overlap each other so if you buy any of the sets, you can easily end up with doubles. The obvious solution would be to only purchase individual colors while keeping an updated list of what you own. One of the biggest kinks in that plan is that those sets are often SIGNIFICANTLY discounted..it's had to walk by 75% off at Michael's. Here is a quick look at most of the sets I found available online. <span style="color: red;"><i>DISTRESS CRAYONS</i> vs. <i>GELATOS</i>:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: medium;">
How do these 2 pigment sticks differ? How are they similar? </div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: medium; min-height: 19px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: medium; min-height: 19px;">
<i><span style="color: red;">Distress Crayons</span></i>:</div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: medium; min-height: 19px;">
<i>Distress Crayons</i>, like all of the <i style="font-size: 16px;">Distress</i> products, contain a water-reactive pigment...however, when water is added to the <i>Crayons, </i>the pigment stays put unless you MOVE it with your finger or a brush. If the <i>Crayon</i> is dry then the pigment will act as a resist and the water will wick away from the pigment. Tim did a great <span style="color: #2929ee; font-size: 16px;"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UX9LUOzfCk" style="font-size: 16px;">demo of this here</a></span>. </div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
Probably the biggest difference between Distress Crayons and other pigment sticks is simply the these amount of product you need to apply. <i>Distress Crayons</i> require a very generous application of product in order to move the pigment around and blend. Whether you want to simply fill in an area, you are going for a nice graduated blend, or you want to blend two or more colors together to get new colors, you need quite a bit of product on your surface. This is where I have seen a lot of reviewers fail...they don't know this and when they treat <i>Distress Crayons</i> like <i>Gelatos </i>they don't perform well. Of course they aren't Gelatos and it is best to use and compare products according to the individual product's directions.<br />

I have struggled all week to write this LOOOONNNG blog post, bring to figure out what to put in it. Today I go to my YouTube Subscrption page and Sandy Allnook has done an excellent and well executed comparison of <i>Distress Crayons</i>, <i>Gelatos</i> and <i>Prima Oil Sticks</i>. You can watch it <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjMaAEHJIFM">here</a>. If you have never watched Sandy's videos she is a fine artist but her channel is a card channel so she does a lot of rubber stamping and right now she is doing a lot of watercoloring. I never understood shadows at all until I started watching her....I'm not saying I am great at them still but I understand them much better so check out some of her other videos.</div>

If you aren't in the mood to check out Sandy's video here is a little of what I learned about the <i>Crayons</i>. As you can see from my photos, the colors are rich, vibrant, and blend beautifully...if you use the right amount of product. Tim used white <i>Gesso</i> as a base for his March tag, but I used clear <i>Gesso</i>-mainly because I had it and because I wanted to see some of the <i>Tissue Wrap</i> through the color.<br />
<i><br /></i><i>Distress Crayons</i> go on very smooth-Tim compares them to the consistency of lipstick and I have to agree. The colors can be smeared around with your fingers or moved with a water brush. I found a baby wipe removes a lot of color and wasn't my favorite way to move or blend color but did allow me to remove color in areas with either too much color or where I wanted to blend in more colors and needed to lighten up the area. <i> Distress Crayons</i> can be layered on top of each other and either blended individually or mixed into new colors. The ability to blend 2 colors to make a 3rd is great because currently there are only 18 colors available. </div>

<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<i>Distress Crayons</i> dry down quit nicely. I love that once they dried, I was able to layer on other colors without ending up with a muddy mess because the colors layered rather than blended. This is where I took advantage of removing color with a baby wipe...I layered colors while they were still wet so they blended then I dried the pigment with a heat gun and added another color overtop. I posted the close-ups photos so you could see some of this detail. Frankly, I am in love with these little pigment sticks.</div>

<i>Dimensional Die Cuts</i> uses <i>Thinlets Dies</i> to cut a design directly on to a background and the NEGATIVE image is used in the design. Depending on what <i>Thinlet</i> die is used, the positive images can saved for another project. After the <i>Thinlet</i> <i>Dies</i> are cut from the background tag, <i>Tissue Wrap</i> is added to the back of the tag and <i>Gesso</i> is applied to the entire tag- including over the <i>Tissue Wrap</i> areas. <i>Distress</i> <i>Crayons</i> blend out and together much MUCH better over <i>Gesso</i> (You can watch Sandy demonstrate this in her video). Tim's project called for White Gesso but I used <i>Clear Gesso</i> on my tags. Why? Because I wanted to try it.</div>

Chemical-etched dies are wafer-thin so they take up a lot less storage space than steel-rule dies. One of the best ways to store them is<a href="http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2015/12/organization.html"> Jennifer McGuire's method</a>. She uses clear plastic sleeves from <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=126126">Simon Says Stamp (25 for $4.99)</a>. Add a sheet of magnet cut to fit and you have a perfect storage method. The dies stay nicely and neat arranged on the magnetic sheet; something that can be important with of the die sets that contain itty bitty dies or 22 pieces. I haven't yet purchased any of the magnet sheets- they are a tad pricey- but that means I can't link you to a great source.</div>

<div style="font-family: times; font-size: 16px;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Another advantage of the chemical-etched dies is you generally get more for your money. Just to quickly compare Tim's products: Most of the Bigz (steel-rule) dies are $19.99 each (Bigz usually include 1 design made up of up of 1 to 4 pieces or two similar designs such as Fleur-De-Lis and Eiffel Tower. <i>Alterations Thinlets</i> contain 1 (<i>Doilies</i>) to 51 (<i>Mini Bird Crazy and Things</i>) dies.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The Remix of <i>Dimensional Die Cuts</i> was achieved by using the new <i>Mixed Media Thinlets</i>. Tim used the cool <i>Mixed Media 2</i> set (left) which I don't have that one yet so I used 3 of the dies from the original set (above right). The <i>Mixed Media Dies</i> are amazing because they do not cut on the outer edges which allows you to cut the negative image anywhere you please. In the photo they look like they are attached but in fact the yard 4 separate dies. I had an interesting mistake you can see on the close-up photo of the heart (above right). Because of the way I put the die through my Vagabond the honeycomb die didn't cut at all and instead it embossed the image. Ok..I will be honest, I put it through upside-down as in sharp side up. I have no idea if doing that will ruin the die over time-or destroy the cutting pads faster, but it certainly was a happy accident. By the way, I want to point out how cool the <i>Distress Crayons</i> are- that white you see in the heart above is not <i>Gesso</i> but the<i> Picket Fence Crayon</i> applied over the dried <i>Chipped Sapphire</i> and <i>Seedless Preserve</i>s.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
My next three tags were made using individual heart dies from the <i>Movers and Shapers</i> sets; 2 of the hearts came from <i>Mini Hearts</i> and the other from <i>Mini Love Struc</i>k. I simply lined them up on my <i>Sizzix Base Tray</i>, ensuring they fit within the confines of a #8 Tag before running it through the Vagabond.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I sprinkled a few of the stunning <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=304697"><span style="color: #2929ee;"><i>Moonshine</i></span><span style="color: #2929ee;"> sequins</span></a> from <i>Simon Says Stamp</i>. The shine and reflection on the <i>Moonshine sequins</i> is such a fun juxtaposition to the grunged-out corrugated cardboard in this design.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I attached the <i>Idea-ology Word Bands </i>with gold metallic <i>DMC</i> embroidery floss.-and maybe a little <i>Tombo Monoadhesive</i> on the back of the metal embellishment for extra security.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This final tag was made using <i>Movers and Shapers</i> <i>Sized Circles </i>lined up on the<i> Base Tray</i> in the same way the hearts were done. I sprinkled on some of the gorgeous <i>Moonshine</i> <i>Sequins</i> and added the "hello" sticker from <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product?id=337085"><span style="color: #2929ee;"><i>Simple Stories Carpe Diem</i></span></a><i> </i>collection to finish it off.</div>

Last summer I was lucky enough to take 2 classes from the amazing mixed-media artist, Finnabar. I first learned of her when I went to CHA 5-ish years ago. She must have just become a member of the Prima Marketing design team because two of her large mixed-media canvases were quietly hanging in their booth, no big sign identifying them....just these two big beautiful mixed-media pieces. WHOA, did I do a double take! I had never seen anything like it before. She has a very distinct style that involves adding a lot of texture and 3D objects to her canvases. She often uses her own image as her focal point and creates headdresses with found objects. Basically her philosophy is along the lines of "I have my husband take a picture of me and get 25 prints at the store and there you are". Check out her <a href="http://tworzysko.blogspot.com/">blog</a> to see all of her amazing work. I will be honest I had some of her work on here but it made my canvas look so drag it depressed me. I know that she worked on her canvases for a lot of hours and I had 4 hours...it was still depressing...SOOOOO on to denial.<br />

I have taken a few classes with big "celebrity" crafters, both in-person and online, and they are all great experiences, Finnabar was by far the most laid back and coolest teacher yet. She is just a super NICE person who loves to teach and share her art. She now has a HUGE line with Prima under the <i>art basics-Gessos, Mediums, Texture Pastes, 3D Gloss Gel, Modeling Paste; </i><i>art ingredients </i>that includes <i>Micas, Glitters, Glass Glitters, Glass Beads</i>, <i>Micro Bead</i>s. <br />
<br />
She has a pretty extensive line of metal embellishments under <i>mechanicals</i>-everything from metal hardware, to gears, to faucets, to jewelry pieces<br />

Oh. My God...these are STUNNERS. I would have added links to these products but either Karma is kicking my butt OR my husband is because my computer has a MalWare issue with something called "EASYSHOPPER" which is ANYthing but easy. The stupid thing adds pop-ups all over the screen so you can't even look at the item you are trying to see. Who would want that service? Who is going to say "Yay, you completely ruined my shopping experience so let me click YOUR link and purchase through YOU! Yes, that is what I want to do!"? Who? I don't get it...unless their business plan is based entirely on tricking people into clicking on their site because it is confusing as the pop-ups keep showing up. With Jill it was pretty obvious but on other sites it wasn't as clear and I could imagine someone screwing that up but I cannot believe they can make a good living doing this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xy6ve8bsri8/VtOoVcsDhBI/AAAAAAAALmU/PJgf32MSMw4/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-02-28%2Bat%2B3.58.40%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xy6ve8bsri8/VtOoVcsDhBI/AAAAAAAALmU/PJgf32MSMw4/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-02-28%2Bat%2B3.58.40%2BPM.png" width="640" /></a><span style="text-align: left;">This is a screenshot of me trying to shop at Jill.com. See the shirt I was looking at? Yay, me either. This thing is very difficult to get rid of....I tried. I usually just hand my computer tno my husband and let him fix it as he understands this stuff much better than I do. I don't want to make it worse but downloading something that will only add more MalWare...which is apparently very easy to do. I upgraded to the new operating software X El Capitan-which didn't fix it but has left me closing windows left and right because they switched the back page and red/yellow/green buttons around. Why? Why do that? Every time I want to go back a page I shut the window....UGH its so frustrating. </span></div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G--h0X-aQq4/VtOr-Ic-juI/AAAAAAAALmw/JXmEfji1aXo/s1600/Finnabair%2Bpb%2B9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G--h0X-aQq4/VtOr-Ic-juI/AAAAAAAALmw/JXmEfji1aXo/s640/Finnabair%2Bpb%2B9.jpg" width="484" /></a></div>
SO....back to the class. Finnabair offered 4 classes and stupid me I only took 2 (head butting the wall as I recall this). The classes were designed to give experience with her Finnabair brand products. This first class was all about her <i>art basics:</i> <i>Black Gesso, 3D Soft Gel, Mica Powders </i>and tons of metal embellishments from her <i>Junkyard Findings. </i>We also used buttons from her <i>"</i>Ugly Button Stash" as she referred to them. Basically, she had a bowl containing a collection of the ugliest plastic buttons. The thing is, add some <i>Black Gesso</i> and <i>Mica</i> and BAM you have something that looks like vintage metal and the uglier the button the better this seems to work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf7JGfC_H2s/VtOsArinY7I/AAAAAAAALnA/W32bLRYtpMk/s1600/Finnabair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf7JGfC_H2s/VtOsArinY7I/AAAAAAAALnA/W32bLRYtpMk/s640/Finnabair.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
We started by adding texture paste through stencils down the center of the canvas. We then used <i>3D Gloss Ge</i>l to glue down some <i>Prima</i> cardboard on the two sides. Mine buckled in this weird way that gave it an almost fabric look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qznM6lJYm0/VtOr7ta_fcI/AAAAAAAALnE/x45bgTZeP3M/s1600/Finnabair%2BPB1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qznM6lJYm0/VtOr7ta_fcI/AAAAAAAALnE/x45bgTZeP3M/s640/Finnabair%2BPB1.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
Finnabair was as surprised as I was about it...too bad I had nothing to do with it and couldn't reproduce it if I wanted to. After that all dried it was time for the <i>Black Gesso, Mica mixed in 3D Soft Gel.</i><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4hjdaqqE_Ak/VtOr7qJKt0I/AAAAAAAALnE/SLrA0XEOv_k/s1600/Finnabair%2BPb4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4hjdaqqE_Ak/VtOr7qJKt0I/AAAAAAAALnE/SLrA0XEOv_k/s640/Finnabair%2BPb4.jpg" width="466" /></a></div>
<i> </i>The <i>3D Soft Gel</i> was used to glue down the buttons and metal objects.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96_7pRF98gk/VtOr-e7ioZI/AAAAAAAALnE/q267O0yx8YE/s1600/Finnabair%2Bpb6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-96_7pRF98gk/VtOr-e7ioZI/AAAAAAAALnE/q267O0yx8YE/s640/Finnabair%2Bpb6.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
The paintbrush was glued down as well with the <i>Soft Gel</i>. I added the <i>screw heads </i>down the handle; they are part of Finnabair's <i>Junkyar</i>d line. I LOVE the effect they give anywhere they are used.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5I6YE5zJoEw/VtOr_OmKexI/AAAAAAAALnE/rv5LdKz0nHg/s1600/Finnabair%2Bpb7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5I6YE5zJoEw/VtOr_OmKexI/AAAAAAAALnE/rv5LdKz0nHg/s640/Finnabair%2Bpb7.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-style: italic;">W</span>e used the <i>3D Soft Gell</i> and <i>Micas</i> to make our own custom paints and dry brushed the piece. I was all about the purples and Finnabair actually pulled out a plastic bag full of the unreleased silver mica which was just perfection. I took all the pics on the same day....not sure why the colors are so different.<br />

The February tag from Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016: Remix is very pretty. I started out making a bunch of backgrounds but ended up only finishing two tags because I wanted to save the fun backgrounds for other tags.<br />
<br />
First....Tim's Masterpiece<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="2016TAG" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-18994" height="480" src="http://timholtz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2016TAG1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="640" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From TimHoltz.com<br /><div style="text-align: left;">
You can read more-or to play along- you can see Tim's instructions <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-february/">here</a>. This tag was all about mixing his Stencil Monoprint technique with Embossed Paste.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My first tag-as you can see-is very similar to Tim's. I like to make one tag that is pretty similar and then play around with other options. This gives me the technique skills and then lets me play. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hzx8r-YkUko/VsRiLZHLPZI/AAAAAAAALjA/MLKmpPZ_H54/s1600/TH12Tag2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hzx8r-YkUko/VsRiLZHLPZI/AAAAAAAALjA/MLKmpPZ_H54/s640/TH12Tag2.jpg" width="506" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't always post my exact copies but this one is so pretty I couldn't help myself....and it isn't an exact copy as I didn't have the same stencil, arrows, and flowers Tim used. I also used Wendy Vecchi's Embossing Paste rather than Texture Paste because it is open and I didn't want to open another product. I think the Embossing Paste may have puffed a little when heated to melt the embossing powder....I couldn't quite decide. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1z3uCR5aGbk/VsRiKwJxoNI/AAAAAAAALi8/1CSMFX5v5z8/s1600/TH%2BFeb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1z3uCR5aGbk/VsRiKwJxoNI/AAAAAAAALi8/1CSMFX5v5z8/s640/TH%2BFeb1.jpg" width="422" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I really love the shiny look of the gold embossing paste over the embossing/texture paste. Not that I ever met gold anything that I didn't love but you get my point. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9KRdOncmv9U/VsRiM6KFFbI/AAAAAAAALjo/xTwda3_5soY/s1600/TH12Tag3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9KRdOncmv9U/VsRiM6KFFbI/AAAAAAAALjo/xTwda3_5soY/s640/TH12Tag3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The shiny gold hearts (on the larger chipboard and patterned paper covered heart) were punched from copy paper run though a laser jet and printed as a pure sheet of toner and then foiled using my Heidi Swapp Minc and Gold Foil. The punch is a Martha Stewart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tim used a spray of tiny vintage flowers on his tag and though I have a ton of vintage flowers, the only ones I had that small are metallic silver and I didn't like the way they looked. I added a Idea-ology Heirloom Rose and a small bow make with 1/4-in seam binding dyed with Candied Red Distress Spray. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1z3uCR5aGbk/VsRiKwJxoNI/AAAAAAAALjk/NB-MMPXP01k/s1600/TH%2BFeb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1z3uCR5aGbk/VsRiKwJxoNI/AAAAAAAALjk/NB-MMPXP01k/s640/TH%2BFeb1.jpg" width="422" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Typed Token is attached to the key with metallic red embroidery floss from DMC. The camera isn't picking up how gorgeous these threads are. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite tag is this pink and gold version.<span style="text-align: center;"> </span></div>

For the flowers cluster I die cut the flowers from white coffee filter using the Tattered Flower Garland Sizzlet which I just got...not sure how I lived without it so long because this die makes the tiniest flowers. I used the three smallest petals for the flowers. The sprayed the cut petals with Tattered Rose Distress Spray, scrunched them up and used the heat gun to dry them. Because they are so small, I think if you want to really get them wet with inks, a coffee filter or one of Tim's Tissue Wraps are the best thing to cut them from....tissue paper would have quickly ripped. Using tiny stamens, I cut each in half and used 3 little stamens in the larger flower and 1 in the two smaller flowers. Simply thread on as many as you like- I used 4 or 5 for each flower- and finish off by adding a tiny drop of hot glue to the back of the final petal right at the hole to hold the stamen in place. I colored more of the 1/4-in seam binding this time using a combination of Victorian Velvet and Tattered Rose Distress Sprays. I scrunched up the ribbon and used a heat gun to dry it faster (though you can let it air dry). Once dry I made a tiny bow. I glued the bow to the flowers, cut off the stems and hot glued the entire thing to the tag. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, the Typed Token is attached with metallic DMC thread, this time in a mauvey- pink. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the monoprint, I used the Scribbles Layering Stencil; for the Embossed Paste I used Argyle and Typo was used to add the inked accents (where Tim used the Hearts). All my stencils are the full-sized layering stencils. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FywnPgcRaDA/VrevX2OU6YI/AAAAAAAALiQ/Y7KhLY9DNZc/s1600/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FywnPgcRaDA/VrevX2OU6YI/AAAAAAAALiQ/Y7KhLY9DNZc/s640/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The final two pieces of my Valentine Centerpieces were a sweet Paper Valentine and a lantern. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Yfd7FwF5VbE/Vrevn3Am4TI/AAAAAAAALiY/IdnyEjfrp-U/s1600/Valentine%2BCenterpiece%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Yfd7FwF5VbE/Vrevn3Am4TI/AAAAAAAALiY/IdnyEjfrp-U/s640/Valentine%2BCenterpiece%2B1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I am so in love with these. I cut the heart using a Sizzix heart box that is 1. No longer available and 2. Sucks to put together. I tried everything I could think of, Googled tutorials, and still couldn't make the box look right. But the top made a beautiful base for a Valentine and because it is a steel ruled die I could cut it from a medium weight cardboard. I covered the hearts with patterned paper, glued a pink doily to the back, added a fun rosette topped with a wooden heart. The "love" and tiny heart are cut from Minc Foiled copy paper. The "love" is actually Heidi Swapp's "lovely" thin die that I just cut off the "LY". The gold splatters are Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold. That stuff is my new obsession. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1hthA4MatYY/Vrew2eSB4RI/AAAAAAAALio/maoQdeHM70s/s1600/lantern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1hthA4MatYY/Vrew2eSB4RI/AAAAAAAALio/maoQdeHM70s/s400/lantern.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The final piece is a lantern made using another Tim Holtz Luminary 3-D die. I added the final flower from the Jumbo Tattered Floral die flowers and a leaf from Garden Greens die. I used vellum in the windows and pearls on the top. A battery-operated tea light finished of this project and add a fun element to the centerpiece. I hear the girls used the tea lights as "lighters" during the musical portion of the dinner which cracked me up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is it...now I need to make Valentine's for my son's class.....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x8RD4qBAHdE/VreslhFOTeI/AAAAAAAALhs/bGxoiFztnX4/s1600/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x8RD4qBAHdE/VreslhFOTeI/AAAAAAAALhs/bGxoiFztnX4/s640/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The second part of my centerpiece for the Valentine's Day party was a vase of paper flowers. I made the flowers using my favorite flower dies- the Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers dies. I used the Jumbo die for all 3 of the flowers I used in this vase and the small one I added to the paper lanterns.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dmMCelE4lNI/Vress65qXLI/AAAAAAAALh0/9CxN5rYZ3Kc/s1600/valentine%2Bvase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dmMCelE4lNI/Vress65qXLI/AAAAAAAALh0/9CxN5rYZ3Kc/s640/valentine%2Bvase.jpg" width="484" /></a></div>
I cut flowers from plain tissue papers, patterned papers, metallic tissue, oiled tissue papers, and old book pages. It is easy to simply layer them up and thread them onto some sort of stem. Here I simply used wire that was curled on one end to keep the petals from falling off. I add 4 or so petals and add a drop of hot glue to the back and smash it all up without burning my fingers, then I add more petals. I end with a thick patterned paper petal. I used the wire to add whisky by bending it forward. The M&M's keep the stems in place but look fun and playful. I hear the girls ate the M&M's and I have to admit I never imagined they would eat them.... I may have dropped one or two and pick them back up and tossed them in a vase. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Each Vase also had a sweet heart cut from gorgeous wool felt that I got from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/FeltOnTheFly">Felt on the Fly</a>. Felt on the Fly carries gorgeous 100% wool felt. I have been looking for beautiful felt for a few years and am thrilled I finally find someone who carries every color imaginable and is great to work wit</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZDyzV1uNgG8/Vren-M4KWuI/AAAAAAAALhQ/3vQVtX_bXBY/s1600/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZDyzV1uNgG8/Vren-M4KWuI/AAAAAAAALhQ/3vQVtX_bXBY/s640/Centerpiece%2Bset%2Bup.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I was asked to make the 14 Valentine-themed centerpieces that would then be raffled off as door prizes to 8th-grade girls. I didn't really know exactly how big the tables would be and I wanted to make something that would be a fun and interesting keepsake for middle schooler....like a big ol' basket of artificial flowers probably wasn't going to excite them. I played around with a few ideas and settled on a cluster of 4 individual- but coordinated -items with a Valentine Waterless Snow Globe taking center stage.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v1_800VXGbs/VreoLYbW01I/AAAAAAAALhY/zi1ZRjh1CvE/s1600/snowglobe%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v1_800VXGbs/VreoLYbW01I/AAAAAAAALhY/zi1ZRjh1CvE/s640/snowglobe%2B2.jpg" width="420" /></a></div>
The snow globes are made with a mason jars with clean sides. It does have a green/blue tint that I wish it didn't have, but the writing across the clear jar was so distracting I hated the way it looked and I couldn't get a wide-mouth clear jar in town. I cut a small styrofoam ball in half and hot glued it to the lid, covered it with spanish moss and attached all the pieces to this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P7uGhEDL70Y/VreySecfB3I/AAAAAAAALiw/J_7KXLbeukM/s1600/Snowglobe1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P7uGhEDL70Y/VreySecfB3I/AAAAAAAALiw/J_7KXLbeukM/s640/Snowglobe1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I decorated the snow globe with little blue roses made from Tim Holtz Tattered Pinecone die, felt and paper hearts, a fun Valentine tree with pink pearls that started as a Tim Holtz Idea-ology bottle brush tree. My trees were misshaped from being in the packaging and I found if you mist them with water and let them dry overnight they fluff up. The pearls are cheap-o plastic pearls colored with alcohol ink. I cut "Sparkle & Shine" from a WPlus9 die using silver glitter paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AA3ZIwelBeg/VrenyLrr6tI/AAAAAAAALhI/rdf7Ya7mHkA/s1600/snowglobe4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AA3ZIwelBeg/VrenyLrr6tI/AAAAAAAALhI/rdf7Ya7mHkA/s640/snowglobe4.jpg" width="352" /></a></div>
<br />
I wrapped a fun pink tinsel from Melissa Frances around the lid and hot glued it in place. I tied a seam binding bow around the top of the jar an used glue dots- one under the bow and one on the opposite side -to hold the ribbon in place. The tags were cut from Tim Holtz die. The bottom tag is cut from patterned paper. I wrapped a pink metallic embroidery floss around the bottom and glued a tiny little gold foiled heart made from a Minc'd piece of typing paper. The top tag is stamped with a Tim Holtz quote and foiled using a glue stick and Martha Stewart Pink foil. I die cut a heart from a piece of laminated foil waste (see more about how I made that <a href="http://rainingjellybeans.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2015-11-22T23:08:00-05:00&max-results=3">here</a>). Finally, the silver bell is colored pink with alcohol inks giving it a variegated look I love.<br />
<br />
I hear the girls LOVED the snow globes. Mission accomplished.<br />

<br />
<br />
I going to try to keep up with Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 this year cuz I wasn't so good about it last year. This year Tim is taking a unique approach...he is revisiting two prior tags and merging the techniques in new and interesting ways.<br />
For the January tag Tim revisited his Chalkboard Technique and Industrious Metal Technique. You can read all about Tim's tag <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-january/">here</a>.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="2016TAG" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-18538" height="480" src="http://timholtz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2016TAG.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="640" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2016-january/">Tim Holt</a>z</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I am going to admit straight away that I have never been able to correctly do the Chalkboard Technique. Tim uses a Ranger Embossing Powder called Frosted Crystal Antiquities and then lays chalk on top of it. I have tried so many times to get this to work...so....so....so many times. The problem is that there is a sweet spot in heating the embossing powder. There is a moment between still having powder and shiny melted plastic when Frosted Crystal is matte but melted enough to grab on to the chalk. This moment has eluded me every single time I have tried this technique...even when I am SURE it is matte and not over melted, I can't make it work. It is frustrating because Tim has provided very detailed photos and instructions and he makes it look so easy time after time and yet I fail. <br />
<br />
I've always end up using white embossing powder on my image and then going over the cardstock with chalk to fake the look. This time I didn't even have any of the Frosted Crystal-my dog knocked over the jar last time I was using it- so I went straight to the white embossing powder. Yes, it feels like I cheated... but then again I wasn't a stressed out frustrated mess at the end either.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
I made 3 different versions of the tag. It is a really fun design and I enjoyed mixing and matching imagines and embossing folders to get totally different looks. <div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VOMlHsWtXJM/Vqu6d-JRRyI/AAAAAAAALg4/RwFjgKuyYR8/s1600/34346377.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VOMlHsWtXJM/Vqu6d-JRRyI/AAAAAAAALg4/RwFjgKuyYR8/s640/34346377.jpg" width="630" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For the Industrious Metal Technique I didn't have the embossing folder Tim used so I turned to my favorite ones from We R Memory Keepers. They have a new-ish line called 3D </div>
<br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.wermemorykeepers.com/default.aspx?PageID=956&CategoryID=810&ProductID=14291&RootCatCode=08000">Gemstone</a> </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.wermemorykeepers.com/Images.aspx?PIFID=22404" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" id="main-image" src="http://www.wermemorykeepers.com/Images.aspx?PIFID=22404" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">ABC 123</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I LOOVVEEE these embossing folders. They are spectacular with foiled cardstock as you can see below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RcTvdZB1Si4/VeJuMbrAoeI/AAAAAAAALLg/q4Ixed6Adqk/s1600/DSC_4496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RcTvdZB1Si4/VeJuMbrAoeI/AAAAAAAALLg/q4Ixed6Adqk/s640/DSC_4496.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
These are foiled using <i>Heidi Swapp Minc</i> foil/machine and the Gemstone Embossing Folder but I am sure that a pre-made foiled cardstock would look just as great.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F-RczlyF8YY/Vqu0M2z3auI/AAAAAAAALek/61SZ9sggTv4/s1600/56777.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F-RczlyF8YY/Vqu0M2z3auI/AAAAAAAALek/61SZ9sggTv4/s640/56777.jpg" width="332" /></a></div>
The first design was the closest to Tim's tag. I used the gears from Tim's<i> Industrial Blueprint </i>stamp set. I added hardware, gold embroidery floss and seam binding.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ATBVEWfhez8/Vqu0RbUDbwI/AAAAAAAALgE/GKGKgjx-83k/s1600/Jan%2B12%2Bof%2B2015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ATBVEWfhez8/Vqu0RbUDbwI/AAAAAAAALgE/GKGKgjx-83k/s640/Jan%2B12%2Bof%2B2015.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The second one was also made from a stamp that came from the Industrial Blueprint...this time I chose the lightbulb.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Again I added hardware but on this one I decided the lightbulb filament needed to be wire. I used 2 different wires, one a thinner gauge and one a little thicker and simply bent the larger wire to fit the shape of the stamped filament and then essentially sewed it in place with the thinner wire.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QYtfS0C9Uec/Vqu0Ny3SR8I/AAAAAAAALe8/il6EZTnElxY/s1600/565675678.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="560" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QYtfS0C9Uec/Vqu0Ny3SR8I/AAAAAAAALe8/il6EZTnElxY/s640/565675678.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My final tag turned out to be my favorite. Here I used butterfly stamps from <i>Finnabair</i>. I took a class this summer from <i>Finnabair</i> and she is an incredible artist but also an incredible person. She really takes a laid-back attitude toward art and is a very encouraging teacher who really wants her students to understand the products and enjoy the process.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q4fIuWzyLC0/Vqu0RvnO1FI/AAAAAAAALgQ/H3T68tbrd5M/s1600/IMG_1306.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q4fIuWzyLC0/Vqu0RvnO1FI/AAAAAAAALgQ/H3T68tbrd5M/s640/IMG_1306.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Here I used the honeycomb folder from the <i>Gemstone </i>set. I again added the gold embroidery thread and also added gorgeous <i>Moonstone</i> sequins from <i>Simon Says Stamp. </i> The butterflies are so fun and whimsical and even more so with <i>Idea-ology Pen Nib</i> bodies embellished with seam binding.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
If you missed my last post then you missed my long winded explanation about Moodboards and why I couldn't stop making them. If you want to learn about Moodboards and why I am making these you can read all about it <a href="http://rainingjellybeans.blogspot.com/2015/11/moodboards-paperless-post-wedding.html">here</a> however the long-story-short version is simply that they are just addicting and fun to make. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Even if you aren't in the market for wedding ideas, don't leave yet. There are still some interesting objects, talented artisans and fun websites linked to these these 3 Moodboards. Hey, you might even find yourself with another Instagram obsession (cough ** The Meringue Girls** cough). Take a few minutes to look at all the pretty pictures. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
All of my wedding Moodboards are inspired by invitations from <a href="https://www.paperlesspost.com/cards/section/Bridal">Paperless Post</a>. I have always enjoyed the process of having something to act as a constraint to rein in my creativity and in this case, using an invitation as the starting point is a great way to spring forward. It is a way to keep me on taste and force me to keep thinking until I get it right. Whether I keep doing wedding Moodboards or not I will do more Moodboards for projects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><span style="font-size: large;">The Metallic Wedding</span></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="464" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v_1VdwSywuY/Vln7PBWhZ4I/AAAAAAAALdo/nNldJrBbnCY/s640/MetallicWedding-Moodboard.jpg" width="640" /></div>
This gorgeous metallic wedding starts with <i><a href="https://www.paperlesspost.com/cards?q=kate%20spade%20evergreen%20stripes%20gold&card=8061">Kate Spade's Evergreen Stripe in Gold</a>.</i> I love all the bling and fun details in this Moodboard and you find more inspiration for this wedding at my corresponding <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/danee_kaplan/metallic-wedding/">Pinterest board</a>. The balloons and metallic tissue fans are from Anthropologie's incredible wedding site BHLDN. The entire site is overflowing with everything gorgeous and everything wedding. You will find unique <a href="http://www.bhldn.com/?cm_mmc=Anthropologie-_-TopNav-_-Link-_-BHLDN">wedding decor</a>, gorgeous <a href="http://www.bhldn.com/bride/?cm_sp=TOPNAV-_-BRIDE-_-LANDING">bridal wear</a>, beautiful <a href="http://www.bhldn.com/bridesmaids/?cm_sp=TOPNAV-_-BRIDESMAIDS-_-LANDING">bridesmaid dresses </a>and <a href="http://www.bhldn.com/shop-shoes-accessories/?cm_sp=TOPNAV-_-SHOES-_-LANDING">shoes, jewelry and headpieces </a>. The site is a great place to get ideas and inspiration for a wide variety of weddings.<br />
<br />
The gorgeous wedding cakes are from an article about <a href="http://onefabday.com/metallic-cakes/">Metallic Wedding Cake</a>s where you can find more gilded and beautiful cakes. The fingernails are the stuff of my metallic dreams. They came from <a href="http://purpleemoon.tumblr.com/post/45382881441">Addicted to Fashion's Tumblr</a>. Finally those shoes....WHOA those shoes...they come from an article that is nothing but shoe porn or as it is titled the<a href="http://www.tulleandchantilly.com/blog/top-20-wedding-shoes-youll-want/"> top 20 wedding </a>shoes...needless to say I pinned several to my various Pinterest wedding boards.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Pink Chalkboard Wedding</span></div>
I decided to showcase a completely different wedding look in this third wedding Moodboard. Here we have a chalkboard-inspired wedding full of girly pinks, frothy tulle and enough gold metallic highlights to glam it up and play off the rustic chalkboard. The wedding dress is a showstopper with an unexpected short front that is perfect for highlighting a stunning pair of shoes<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jvKwACpsIDg/Vl-u44kdk9I/AAAAAAAALd4/5lQO0kqME7Y/s1600/Chalkbaordmoodboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jvKwACpsIDg/Vl-u44kdk9I/AAAAAAAALd4/5lQO0kqME7Y/s640/Chalkbaordmoodboard.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
This wedding started with the Paperless Post invitation called <a href="https://www.paperlesspost.com/cards?q=chalkboard%20garland">Chalkboard Garland</a>. All of their invitations seem to have coordinating "save the date" and "thank you" cards as well as menus and programs making those choices easy if you want everything to match.<br />
<br />
I love how this wedding plays casual and elegance off each other. This dress is STUNNING and those shoes are perfection. I love that neither the dress nor the shoes compete with each other but both look incredible together. The short/long"waterfall" dress is not something I usually even like but it works so well in this design. Yes, the bride is The Hill's <a href="http://www.brit.co/whitney-port-waterfall-wedding-dress/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Weekly%20Newsletter%2011/13&utm_term=WeeklyNews">Whitney Port</a> and yes, that is her real wedding dress. The beautiful wedding cakes are done by Liz Marek from<a href="https://www.facebook.com/artisancakecoPDX?fref=ts"> Artisan Cake Company</a> who makes jaw-dropping beautiful cakes like it is child's play. I found the cakes <a href="http://www.partyanimalonline.co.uk/blog/chalkboard-cakes/">here</a> but you can find more about Liz on her website and even take online classes from her website <a href="http://www.partyanimalonline.co.uk/blog/chalkboard-cakes/">The Sugar Geek Show</a> where she offers an incredible range of topics from basic cake decorating skills and advanced carving projects. The flower girl's cotton candy dress is made by Amandy Folz and avail be at her Etsy Shop<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/alorasafari?ref=l2-shopheader-name"> Alora Safari Co</a><br />
If you are planning a chalkboard-inspired wedding be sure to check out my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/danee_kaplan/chalkboard-wedding/">Pinterest board</a> for this wedding because I had a lot of ideas I couldn't work into this Moodboard.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Very Vintage Rhinestone Wedding </span></div>
I wove my way back to a very vintage wedding in this next Moodboard. The details in this wedding are pure vintage rhinestone and I literally swoon over this board.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zS8C6IFnCSI/Vl-32IbcW0I/AAAAAAAALeQ/x7GpfLiRyLE/s1600/VeryVintage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zS8C6IFnCSI/Vl-32IbcW0I/AAAAAAAALeQ/x7GpfLiRyLE/s640/VeryVintage.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The inspiration behind all these rhinestones is the elegant gold "Save the date" card called "<a href="https://www.paperlesspost.com/cards?q=Rose%20Applique">Rose Appliqué"</a> I love the detailed gold medallions on the top and bottom of the card and used this as inspiration for the highly detailed pieces I chose for the Moodboard. Like the chalkboard-inspired wedding Moodboard above, this wedding Moodboard came after much editing of my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/danee_kaplan/very-vintage-wedding/">Pinterest Board</a>; there are many more gorgeous ideas there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The stunning Pistachio and White Chocolate Rose Meringue desserts came from the Instagram of one of my favorite artists <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/8dSru-ksOS/">The Meringue Girls.</a> They are not bakers or dessert makers, they are artists. Every single thing they make is perfection to look at and a cacophony of flavors that has to be something one never forgets. Sadly the are in England so I haven't had the pleasure of tasting anything of theirs but I did just get their <a href="http://www.meringuegirls.co.uk/the-book">first cookbook </a>to peruse. You can watch them create their mad genius on their <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuiudy4imJAT3himyLZpjDg">YouTube channel</a>.</div>
<br />
With the dessert out of the way lets talk about the rhinestones....the ring bearer's pillows is from <a href="http://www.millieicaro.com/">Millie Caro</a>. The entire site is full of incredible bead work that will inspire anyone with a love of vintage rhinestones. The stunning wedding gown came from a story on beautiful <a href="http://www.confettidaydreams.com/15-lace-back-wedding-dresses-and-gown/">lace-back gowns</a> and is the work of the very talented <a href="http://rtw.veluzbride.com/">Veluz Reyes</a> who designs ready-made and custom gowns. <br />
<br />
I just love the soft pinks, purples and blues against the vintage rhinestones and pale golds of this Moodboard. This is the type of wedding that the guests wear black tie and candlelight and mercury glass are a must at the reception. Even if you are no where near planning a wedding, I hope you will find looking at my Moodboards gives you inspiration for a beautiful home decor project, a pretty <i>Thinking of You </i>card or an elegant piece of jewelry. <br />
